Abyss Anemone (深渊海葵; pinyin:Shēnyuān hǎi kuí) is a plant in the Chinese version of Plants vs. Zombies 2 introduced in the v3.1.4 update alongside Parkour Mandrake. It is the first plant to be part of the Abyss Series.

Abyss Anemone will grab the closest zombie within the 3 tiles ahead, and drag them into the abyss. After Abyss Anemone digests the dragged zombie, it will then be used to charge the cracking eye that is summoned by Abyss Anemone on the top left corner of the lawn. After the digestion, along with charging the cracking eye, Abyss Anemone additionally will then shoot a laser beam down the whole lane ahead. For zombies that can not be dragged into the abyss such as Gargantuar, Abyss Anemone will constantly attack them with a tentacle until they die.

The cracking eye on the top left corner of the lawn serves as a tower defender. The cracking eye has 3 phases of being charged. Once it reaches its 3rd phase (which can be seen once the cracking eye is emitting eye symbols and a spinning purple aura), the player is allowed to click it, and once it is clicked, it will start attacking random zombies with a laser beam on the lawn for a short period of time.

In a similar manner to Tile Turnip, Ultomato, and Earthstar Nuclear Silo, the sun cost will start doubling for every Abyss Anemone on the lawn, initial sun cost being 50 sun.

Origins

Abyss Anemone is based on the anemone stinkhorn (Aseroe rubra), also known as the sea anemone fungus, a common and widespread basidiomycete fungus recognizable for its foul odour of carrion and its sea anemone shape when mature.

The "Abyss" part in the name is reference to Abyss Anemone's ability to drag zombies into the deep abyss undergrounds.

Their codename and general appearence also reference Cthulhu, a cosmic entity created by writer H. P. Lovecraft introduced in his short story "The Call of Cthulhu".

In English: Drags zombies into the abyss and absorbs them, to charge the cracking eye. Plant feature: Purple plant Nobody knows where they come from, nor what are they, and the zombies who hear them whisper, end up going insane.

Upgrades

Plant Food effect

When fed Plant Food, Abyss Anemone will grab zombies in a 3x3 area, and drag them into the abyss, while also directly digesting them. Zombies that can not be dragged into the abyss will not be affected by this plant food effect.

Costumed

When the costume is used, Abyss Anemone's tentacles will deal heavy damage to zombies that can't be dragged into the abyss.

	Fighting Power 战斗能力	Abyss Anemone gains another 50% more attack power and health (250% of initial).
	Strange Light 奇异光线	The eye bud will shoot out a laser beam to cause damage to zombies, turning the first small and medium-sized zombie it touches into a monk zombie of our side (the maximum limit of transformed zombies is 5), and the attack power increases to 120/shot & 1200. 花苞射出光线对僵尸造成伤害，将接触到的第一个中小体型僵尸变为我方的僧侣僵尸（变形后的僵尸阶数上限为5阶），攻击力上升至120/发&1200。

Strategies

Abyss Anemone can be used essentially the same as one would use Snap Pea, just further forwards due to its low range. As with that plant, defensive plants and stallers to allow it to safely digest are key. Its increasing cost is also important to take note of, making getting multiple of them a challenge without proper sun management. Using Abyss Anemone in levels where it's hard to accumulate sun is generally discouraged.

Using it along with the other Abyss Plants, if you own them, to charge the Eye of Abyss faster can also help tremendously, as its damage output and crowd control potential when properly fed is incredibly powerful.

Trivia

• Due to a coding error, Abyss Anemone's level 5 ability turned Imps into normal Cthulhu Monk Zombies, leaving the latter's Imp variant unused.
  • This was fixed in a later update.
