Strategies
With
Doom-Shroom is a highly specific card used in hard control decks to tech other control decks. It has all the same problems as Shamrocket, which is already hard to justify outside of control, but it has two more; firstly, it costs 5
, which is massive for a removal card, and secondly, it affects your own cards too, which makes it basically unusable outside of control, as non-control
Guardian decks probably have more high-strength cards than the average zombie deck. Running it as a "just in case" is guaranteed to brick the vast majority of the times you run it.
However, in control, you typically have fewer cards on the board, and even if cards like Gravitree, Pepper M.D., and Transfiguration are destroyed by it, you can always come back with Wall-Nut Bowling, and Doom-Shroom might be the thing you need to get there. Therefore, Doom-Shroom is much more viable. However, it is still not an auto-include in control, as 5
is still a lot, especially considering it is competing with Shamrocket, which is more practical in most scenarios. However, there are some cards that swarm the board with many high-strength zombies, namely Zombot Dinotronic Mechasaur and Gargologist, which are very difficult to deal with once they get going. If you're worried about these cards, then running one or two copies of Doom-Shroom alongside two or three Shamrockets can help. If you're running control in Ranked, it is also highly recommended, as your opponent might be running a deck with a normally impractical number of high-cost zombies that would destroy you otherwise, though it is worth noting that it is not as effective as it would seem against Tricks that create swarms of big zombies, such as Bad Moon Rising, Gargantuars' Feast, or Zombology Teacher with Going Viral, as you're going to have to take a ton of damage first once the Zombie Tricks phase ends.
Overall, Doom-Shroom is a niche but valuable tech card that is seen more often than not in competitive control decks, as it is sometimes necessary to secure wins against decks like The Smash Gargantuars or Mechasaur control, which are important matchups to do well in in the current meta.
Against
Doom-Shroom serves as a total blowout if you manage to destroy multiple high-strength zombies. Withholding playing many big zombies isn't an option, as it accomplishes nothing since playing those zombies will be the whole point of your deck. Luckily, you can rely on Tricks that make your board big, such as Going Viral, or in control, you can play cards like Undying Pharaoh to keep yourself safe after your Zombot Dinotronic Mechasaur dies long enough to play another. It is also occasionally possible for a deck like The Smash's Gargantuars to threaten Plants into playing Doom-Shroom on two or three Gargantuars, and then have more in hand to beat them with, though this is very unreliable. Most decks won't have boards big and slow enough for Doom-Shroom to be a great concern.

Trivia
- Prior to an update, it could activate Punish-Shroom's ability when played. This is because playing the card counted as destroying it.
- It is only non-superpower mushroom trick in the game.
