Dripping Diphylleia (滴水冰莲; pinyin: dīshuǐ bīng lián) is a plant in Chinese version of Plants vs. Zombies 2 introduced in the 2.6.0. update as the first plant unlocked in the Heian Age world, being unlocked after clearing Day 2.

She attacks by splashing water in a 3x3 area around herself. Water splashed by Dripping Diphylleia extinguishes fire from Fireworks Zombie and forms a small pond in her attack area which slows down zombies.

Dripping Diphylleia's petals will degrade after splashing water, when her petals fully deteriorate, Dripping Diphylleia will disappear.

Origins

Dripping Diphylleia is based on the flowers of the skeleton flower (Diphylleia grayi), whose white petals turn completely transparent when exposed to water.

Dripping Diphylleia's ice-based abilities is a play on the skeleton flower's Chinese name, "冰莲" (bīng lián), which translates into English as "Ice lotus".

When given Plant Food, Dripping Diphylleia splashes water in a 5x5 area, as well as restoring her petals and allowing her to splash more water before disappearing.

Strategies

Dripping Diphylleia is the first counter against Firework Zombie, so you must use her against this zombie. You also must use her wisely or otherwise the level will be more difficult if there are more zombies on the field. Remember that she will degrade and disappear after a few splashes, so it is recommended to plant at least three on a single column.

Unless you have Dripping Diphylleia's costume equipped, do not use her against Explorer Zombie, Torch Kongfu Zombie, or Torch Monk Zombie, as both her regular attack and Plant Food water puddle will not put out their torches.

Trivia

• In the 2.9.8 update, Dripping Diphylleia lost her ability to slow down zombies due to a bug.
  • It was fixed in 3.0.2 update.
• Dripping Diphylleia's upgrade icons show the costume improperly layered behind herself, which is strange as the costume shouldn't even be there in the first place.
