Fume-shroom (Plants vs. Zombies 2)
- For other uses, see Fume-shroom (disambiguation).
Fume-shroom is a Mushroom appearing in Plants vs. Zombies 2, introduced as a counter to Jester Zombie. He is capable of spraying fumes, doing 40 damage which hits every zombie four tiles ahead of him plus the tile he is planted on. Fume-shroom suffers from limited range, his attack only being triggered by and having effect on a zombie or tombstone appearing 4 tiles in front of him.
About
- For more information about this character, see Fume-shroom.
Fume-shroom is unlocked after completing Dark Ages - Night 4. He has received a significant amount of changes compared to the first games: He attacks every 2.35-2.5 seconds, dealing 40 damage to every zombie for each attack. He can now be used in other worlds without any penalty, due to the absence of the sleeping mechanic and Coffee Bean.

Strategies
Fume-shroom fills in the middle ground between Snapdragon and Laser Bean: His effective range, while greater than Snapdragon's, is not infinite like Laser Bean's. A Fume-shroom deals more damage per second than a Laser Bean and as much damage as a Snapdragon, but does not enjoy Snapdragon's attack stacking capability and therefore will do less damage per second when planted in a column. Regardless, all three plants are excellent at crowd controlling, and they will prove to be useful in both normal levels and Endless Zones due to the constantly escalating amount of zombies compared to that of the first game.
Like in the first game, Fume-shroom is effective against zombies that attempt to shield themselves from normal projectiles, such as Barrel Roller Zombie, Shield Zombie and Excavator Zombie, hitting through their protection and killing them easily. He is also useful in cleaning up tombstones, as his area attacks can hit up to five tombstones at once as well as any zombies that wander inside his range.
Fume-shrooms are a great choice against Zombie Chickens in Wild West and Ice Weasels in Frostbite Caves. While he is slightly inferior to Lightning Reed in combating Zombie Chickens because of the lower attack speed and decreased range, Fume-shroom does a much better job against Ice Weasels, as he does just enough damage to kill them in one hit, and his area attack can destroy any amount of them, whereas Lightning Reed can only hit a limited amount of targets and will seriously struggle against Ice Weasels.
Fume-shroom is especially effective in his home world, the Dark Ages, because he is cheap, and his attack can't be blocked by any of the zombies there (Jester Zombie blocks all projectiles, while Imp Dragon Zombie is immune to fire, making plants like Jack O' Lantern and Snapdragon less effective). The only practical weakness he has is the Wizard Zombie, as he lacks the necessary range to defeat it.
Fume-shroom's plant food effect is essentially Laser Bean combined with Hurrikale save for the slowing effect. It does enough damage to qualify as an instant kill, as it does just enough damage to vanquish every common zombie and take a great chunk off Gargantuars, rivaling even instant kills like Jalapeno in this regard.

Trivia
- His cap is slightly transparent, most noticeably when Fume-shroom is given Plant Food.
- His attack was glitched in the 3.4.4 update, being able to deal splash damage on adjacent lanes like Snapdragon, and could reach 4.5 tiles in front of it instead of four. This was fixed in the 3.5.1 update.
- He's is nicknamed as "Balloon-shroom" in Almanac, which refers to his Plant Food ability when his cap drastically inflates.
- Although one of his costumes references Nightcap from Plants vs. Zombies Heroes, Nightcap in that game cannot use Fume-shroom under normal circumstances.
- In the Chinese version, if Fume-shroom is level 4 and costumed, and is spawned by a Spore-shroom that is level 2 or up, it can also activate his Plant Food effect, unlike most other mushrooms. However, this effect will be glitched.
