Hot Rod Chomper is a Super Rare variant of the Chomper in Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare and Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2. He is a playable character who acts as a melee class with a secondary ability that provides a buff to movement speed for a limited time after eating a zombie. In exchange for a sizable 50 less health than most Chompers, he has the fastest movement in the entire game at 7.5 m/s in GW1 and 8.4 m/s in GW2 (not counting Assistant Manager Bitey).
The Hot Rod Chomper is the fastest Chomper in Suburbia. Equipped with a heavy duty blower, port-and-polished heads, and a lightweight frame, he can race in on the unsuspecting Zombies.

Appearance
Hot Rod Chomper differs from the normal Chomper with his shiny new-looking black paint job accented with purple flames, a chrome mouth, and tongue. Upon jumping or chomping, the Hot Rod Chomper makes motor-like noises. His drool appears to be motor oil.
Variant perk
Being Hot Rod Chomper, speed is a definite benefit. Upon swallowing and digesting a zombie, the Hot Rod Chomper gains an exceptional speed boost for 3.75 seconds to help close the space between him and another enemy zombie. He also quickly recharges the Goop ability to slow down zombies. His massive disadvantage about Hot Rod Chomper is that his health is only 100 (125 if upgraded) instead of the standard 150 (GW1) or 175 (GW2). Also, zombies can easily spot him because of the constant noises he makes.
Primary weapon
Hot Rod Chomp is the primary weapon of the Hot Rod Chomper. It deals 25 damage at 135 rpm. Once a zombie has been digested, he will gain a speed boost for 3.75 seconds and make noises of a V8 engine.

The Chesterweed attacks at an extremely fast speed, dealing up to 70 damage in 5 seconds. Chompers eating zombies trapped by the Chesterweed will swallow significantly faster, but the Chomper can only have two of them at a time, instead of three. It takes 60 seconds to recharge one Chesterweed.
If you're sick of being harassed by Zombies on rooftops, the Chomp Cannon is for you. Hock a loogie in their direction with this disgustingly explosive attack!

When a zombie stumbles into a Vampweed, you get a helpful health boost! The zombie isn't hurt, but he probably feels a bit silly falling into your trap.

Strategies
With
You can use the extra speed (after digesting a zombie) to make a quick getaway to a Sunflower, quickly chase a player down without using Burrow, or make way to safety. The speed boost allows you to move faster than Peashooter's Hyper. Take advantage of his speed, such as trying to dodge bullets. He also moves faster when using the Burrow due to his faster movement speed. However, do not try dodging bullets while running from an Engineer variant, as his attacks can deal splash damage even if they miss (unless a Mechanic is chasing you, who cannot do splash damage).
Against
Remember his abilities and speed boost while attempting to flee from or vanquish the Hot Rod Chomper. Try to use abilities that can help you make large distances between him, such as Scientist's Warp, Foot Soldier's Rocket Jump or Rocket Leap, Engineer's Jackhammer, or the All-Star's Sprint Tackle. However, tackling him is not recommended as the Hot Rod Chomper can live and get knocked back to safety. Stun him with the Sonic Grenade as an Engineer, then vanquish him before he can harm you.
Goop can be a major problem facing this Chomper, especially if he Goops you while he has his speed boost. To avoid this threat, try to counter his abilities with your abilities, such as the All-Star's Dummy Shields, which will take the hit from the Goop for you. Even better, instant-kill abilities, such as ZPG or Imp Punt, make vanquishing this Chomper easy. Rocket Jump onto a rooftop, and he will not be able to harm you unless he Goops you.
Due to him only having 125 health (as opposed to the 175-health pool that most other Chompers have) and massive critical hitbox, he is much more vulnerable to snipers, so make sure to keep this in mind. Ice Characters can very easily slow him down, making his fragility even more obvious.

He appears in a promotional image along with Sunflower as seen above. The "Need for Seed" in the image is a pun for Need for Speed, a racing video game franchise also owned by EA. The promotional image parodies Need for Speed Rivals.
The origin of the pun was from a fan that wondered what was next for a plant-based pun in June 2013, and PopCap replied that it was a brilliant idea.
However, this is only the case in Garden Warfare, as in Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2, many Chomper variants' stem and leaves are different colors.
His speed boost makes him faster than Peashooter using Hyper, making him the fastest plant without using any abilities.
His Chomp has a special sound effect similar to Armor Chomper.
He was redesigned in Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2. His appearance is mostly the same except for his mouth. It now has a black chrome color, with the teeth not being chrome but white instead.
He was given a new movement animation along with Disco Chomper, and this animation can be seen when either of these Chompers achieves the condition that makes them move faster than usual. You can also see this animation done by other Chompers by activating the Speed Boost Craziness option in a private match.
After Chomp Thing's health buff in the Trials of Gnomus DLC, he is the only Chomper variant with 125 health.
His in-game description references the movie Hot Rod during the Cool Beans scene.
