Then he joined the army, and became a machine gunner with oddly bad marksmanship. And then he discharged, and became a landlord who ate seeds and sunbathed every day. And then? Don't you see that guy over there who opened his mouth to spit at you?

Machine Gun Pomegranate (机枪石榴; pinyin: jīqiāng shíliú) is a plant in the Chinese version of Plants vs. Zombies 2. He attacks zombies by spitting pomegranate seeds at them in a 2x3 area in front of him.

Origins

Machine Gun Pomegranate is based on the pomegranate (Punica granatum), a fruit-bearing deciduous shrub or small tree.

The second part is a reference to its Plant Food ability, which is similar to a machine gun, but his normal attack is more like a scattergun.

About

He is a Green quality monthly special plant. He spits multiple seeds at zombies in a 2x3 space in front of him. If you want to receive Puzzle Pieces for him, you can obtain some from your daily login reward or Gene Modification.

When fed Plant Food, Machine Gun Pomegranate pulls out a machine gun's barrel on top of his head and starts firing powerful seeds every second, dealing massive damage to whatever is in front of him in a 3x5 area.

Strategies

Treat this plant like how you would use Snapdragon, due to them sharing the same range. This plant is better used in groups because of the heavy damage output in multiple lanes. At level 1, you should keep this heavily defended with defensive plants such as Wall-nuts, Tall-nuts, and especially Pumpkins, to ensure that Machine Gun Pomegranate does not get easily overwhelmed by the zombie horde due to his low range. Support him with Winter Melon, Laser Bean or Snapdragon since he cannot stand alone.

It is best to upgrade him to level 2 or higher, as it can expand his range, giving him an advantage over Snapdragon. He can become very powerful at level 4 because he can activate his Plant Food when planted. Sunflower Singer can also be used to increase his damage, making him stronger.

Just be careful in Dark Ages when you are entering levels with Jester Zombie respectively since he can deflect the plant's projectiles back at him.

Trivia

• Previously, he attacked in a 1x3 area. This means at level 2, his range was 2x3, and at level 3, his range was 3x3. However, his range was increased to balance him.
• When he is fed Plant Food while a zombie is close to him, he pushes them back a really small distance.
• Even though Jester Zombie can deflect his projectiles, it’s impossible for Hammer Zombie, Nunchaku Zombie, or Excavator Zombie to eschew being damaged by his projectiles.
• In advertisements, he has a scouter. However, it is never shown in-game.
• He has the same hat costume as Snow Cotton.
• In the 1.4.0/1.4.1 update, his firing sound was added.
• He sometimes misses the zombies when he attacks.
  • He also ignores any zombie above or below him if it is 1 tile away.
