Magnet-shroom (Plants vs. Zombies 2)
- For other uses, see Magnet-shroom (disambiguation).
Magnet-shroom is a mushroom that takes away metallic objects such as buckets, metal grates and even Punk Zombies' heads, lowering their toughness and/or preventing them from using their special abilities, while only having a small recharge time needed between thefts.
Although he does not cause any damage unless plant food is used on him, he can render some of the toughest zombies almost defenseless, such as Knight Zombies by removing their helmets, reducing their health to that of a normal zombie and making them much easier to defeat in all situations.

About
- For more information about this character, see Magnet-shroom
Magnet-shroom makes its return in Dark Ages. He is unlocked after completing Dark Ages - Night 15 and is the last plant to be obtained in Dark Ages.
He has the same effect as the original game, but he no longer glows when he steals metallic items or turns into a blackish color after he takes an object. His recharge is ten seconds slower than in the first game.

Upgrades
Plant Food effect
When given Plant Food, Magnet-shroom attracts up to 20 metallic objects from zombies within his vicinity and throws each object ahead of his lane. Each thrown bucket, helmet, and grate deals 300 damage, while Treasure Yeti's head deals 500 damage per shot and Punk Zombie heads will not be thrown at all. The maximum amount of possible damage is 6200 damage per shot, overkilling all zombies except Zombots.
Contain-mint effect
When boosted by Contain-mint, Magnet-shroom will take 2.5 seconds to destroy objects, and his range is increased by 8x10.

Magnet-shroom can throw metallic objects at any zombie on the lawn.
Strategies
While quite different as he is from his first appearance, Magnet-shroom still has the same affect on metal item zombies. Magnet-shroom sacrificed his recharge speed to slightly hasten removal of metallic equipment from zombies.
The following section shows a list of objects affected by Magnet-shroom's ability:
- Bucket
- Metal grate
- Knight helm
- Yeti's head and arm (in older versions)
- Zombot Dark Dragon's nose ring (Stuns for 3 seconds)
- Punk Zombie's head
- Skull (only in the Chinese version)
- Galea
- Admiral helmet
- Pickaxe
- Carnie Imp's helmet
- Wind up key
Use Magnet-shroom only when you see Buckethead Zombies, Knight Zombies, Zombie Kings, Poncho Zombies, Punk Zombies, Carnie Imps, or Nutcracker Zombies. Because four of the zombies that he can steal objects from make appearances in Wild West, Dark Ages, Neon Mixtape Tour, and Thymed Events, it makes him a good plant to use in those four areas. He also recovers faster after killing Punk Zombies than he does after stealing normal metal objects.
His Plant Food ability allows him to cripple hordes of zombies by not only removing many metallic items at once, but dealing heavy damage to the zombies in front of him in his lane. Bear in mind that each metal object only deals 300 damage, so there will need to be a lot of zombies with them for his Plant Food ability to be useful offensively.
Additionally, his Plant Food ability is one of the few ways to momentarily stun the Zombot Dark Dragon, as this Zombot's fire breath attack cannot be stopped by simply giving Plant Food to any plant in its way - making him crucial in preventing your plants from being destroyed by the Zombot's fire breath attack, and allowing your plants a window of time to open fire.
In Arena, armors stolen by him counts as the armor being destroyed, earning the player full points. If boosted, he can simultaneously steal a sizable number of metallic armors from zombies on the screen, earning the player a massive amount of points as a result.
When used against singular zombies, it may be better to use Shadow-shroom rather than Magnet-shroom, as it can effect all zombies (including those without metallic armour), as well as have a better plant food. However, Shadow-shroom is a single use plant, and unless you use it with Moonflower it will have serious trouble dealing with hordes of zombies. There's also the fact that many more superior alternatives are avaliable.
In Endless Zones, Magnet-shroom is generally only good if used in conjunction with other Plant Food effects via Tile Turnip. Without his Plant Food effect, Magnet-shroom will quickly falter against the massive swarms of zombies. However, since his Plant Food effects up to 20 zombies on screen, using it in the middle of intense situations, such as huge waves, can make the zombies much easier for your offensive plants to handle. Punk Zombie's head cannot be used against other zombies during his Plant Food attack.
However, despite his seemingly strong magnetic nature, he cannot disable mechanized enemies from Far Future, Zombie Bulls or Rodeo Legend Zombie's bulls, vehicles from Sky City, Solar Car Zombie, Toy Car Imp, Cardio Zombie's treadmill, and Z-Mech, despite the fact that all of these enemies are metallic in some form.
He also cannot steal several metallic objects that grant the zombies their abilities. (Ra Zombie's golden staff, Barrel Roller Zombie's barrel, Zombie King's scepter, Fisherman Zombie's fishing rod, Parasol Zombie's parasol, Excavator Zombie's golden shovel, Imp Porter's backpack or tent, MC Zom-B's microphone, Boombox Zombie's boombox, Roman Shield Zombie's shield, Healer Zombie's caduceus, ZCorp HelpDesk's laptop, Gong Zombie's gong, Swordsman Zombie's sword, Nunchaku Zombie's nunchucks, Cavalry Zombie's lance, Lightning Gun Zombie's lightning gun, Lost Doctor Zombie's syringes, Lost Guide Zombie's metal detector, Bass Zombie's guitar, Riot Police Zombie's baton and shield, Gentleman Zombie's umbrella, Coal Miner Zombie's wheelbarrow, Furnace Zombie's furnace, Sculptor Imp Zombie's awl and hammer, Perfume Zombie's perfume bottles, or Bubble Gun Imp's bubble gun.)
Moreover, he is useless against most other types of tougher headwear that a normal zombie can come with, such as bricks, ice blocks, and fossils. He also cannot steal buckets and football helmets from Buckethead Adventurer Zombies while this zombie is being carried by a bug, and from All-Star Zombies, respectively.

Trivia
- He was first seen in the end of Plants vs. Zombies 2 second trailer of Google Play, thus making him a confirmed mushroom.
- His costume alludes Magneto's (a villain from the X-Men comics) cape.
- Unlike the first game, he now has a "Mediocre" recharge. However, the time it takes for it to attract a metal object, dissolve it, and attract another one is five seconds faster.
- Unlike in the first game, Magnet-shroom cannot attract helmet by a All-Star Zombie.
- He does not have eyebrows in this game.
- His magnet detaches itself from the mushroom cap when using its Plant Food ability, or while being watered in the Zen Garden.
- His range is not shown in the Almanac.
- When a metal object has been attracted by him, the player can see the object shrinking.
- If he is transformed by a Wizard Zombie while attracting, the object does not shrink.
- The last night of Dark Ages gives the player a boosted Magnet-shroom for the Zomboss battle. The last day of Big Wave Beach also has Lily Pad as a mandatory boosted plant. These are the only Zomboss battles that have this feature.
- If the player uses Plant Food on him when a Treasure Yeti's head or arm is fallen on the ground, Magnet-shroom will attract it.
- He is the only plant that has two achievements related to him - Your Hat, Sir! and Head Banger.
- If he drags a metallic item but gets frozen, the item will unrealistically become stuck mid-air with his animation.
- He is the only plant that can (technically) damage zombies protected by Glitter Zombie's rainbow by stealing Neon Buckethead's bucket and Punk Zombie's head.
- He can also gain points in Arena if he steals the head of Punk Zombie or a bucket from a Buckethead Zombie.
- In the case of Contain-mint plants being weak or ineffective against zombies, Magnet-shroom can still take away metallic objects when he reaches Mastery 100+.
- He has a faster ability recharge time if he grabs Punk Zombie's head, unlike other metallic objects.
- Despite being made of rocks instead of metal, he can steal both Cave Buckethead's and Jurassic Buckethead's bucket.
- This also applies to Buckethead Pirate Zombie and Buckethead Samurai Zombie as their buckets are made of wood instead of metal but still can be stolen by him.
- The metal object will drop if the plant is removed when the metal item is still stuck on it.
- This is one of the only ways to see a defensive equipment to drop without it being destroyed. Other examples include poison effects like Shadow-shroom/Goo Peashooter/Imp Pear/Chili Bean, Hypno-shroom's Plant Food effect, Grimrose/Conceal-mint/Shadow Peashooter and certain other instant-kill plants like Cherry Bomb.
- It is possible for Zombie Kings instantly restore removed knight helms, especially when multiple are on the field at the same time.
Specific to the Chinese version (China only)
- When the player uses Sunflower Singer's Plant Food effect while a Magnet-shroom is charging, the metal object stays in the mid-air even after he has been fed Plant Food or dug up.
