Orchid Mage (扇贝兰法师; pinyin: shàn​bèi lán fǎ​shī) is a piercing plant in the Chinese version of Plants vs. Zombies 2 introduced in the v2.9.8 update. Orchid Mage has both a ranged attack and a melee attack, and can hover over sky tiles in Sky City, roof tiles in Modern Roof and Modern Night Roof, and water tiles in Big Wave Beach, Modern Pool, and Modern Fog.

Orchid Mage's ranged attack is her charging up and firing gravity balls at zombies. Gravity balls are fired at the tile behind the first zombie down Orchid Mage's lane, where they will then detonate upon reaching. Upon detonating, Orchid Mage's gravity balls will then attract a small amount of medium and small sized zombies in a 3x3 area around it, prioritizing leftmost zombies and ones in the row it was fired down. After this effect has passed, zombies will then shift towards the lane they are closest to and continue walking, while Orchid Mage will begin to recharge another gravity ball.

Orchid Mage also has three miniature gravity balls orbiting it, which she uses as part of her melee attack. When a zombie gets too close to Orchid Mage, she will fire one of her miniature gravity balls at it. Miniature gravity balls knock back zombies they hit, and only three can be fired before being depleted.

Origins

Orchid Mage is based on the clamshell orchid (Prosthechea cochleata), an epiphytic sympodial New World orchid native to Central America, the West Indies, Colombia, Venezuela, and southern Florida.

The small and medium-sized zombies in the center will be dragged into the black hole and killed instantly. Trivia

• Orchid Mage, Ghost Pepper, and Egret Flower Plane are the only Monthly Special plants to be flying plants.
  • This does not take into account Rotobaga, who was formerly a Monthly Special plant.
• If Orchid Mage's ranged attack is deflected by Hammer zombie or Nunchaku Zombie, it will go through plants and not damage them.
• If Orchid Mage uses her ranged attack and Hurrikale is used, the zombie will float off screen but won't die and will continue to move forward until they reach your house.
• Even though she can’t target Bandit Zombie while he goes into his invisible state, it’s still possible for the splash damage to kill him.
