Plant Food is a premium rare plant trick card in Plants vs. Zombies Heroes and a member of the Mega-Grow class.
It costs 4 to play, and its ability gives a selected plant +1/+1, then makes it do a bonus attack. Its closest zombie counterparts are Yeti Lunchbox and Lurch for Lunch.
Origins
It is based on the game mechanic in Plants vs. Zombies 2 with the same name and appearance.

Strategies
With
While this trick only gives a small stat boost for its sun cost, the fact that it can make a plant do a bonus attack makes it more powerful. Using it with Re-Peat Moss can make it do two bonus attacks, which can be devastating if its strength is sufficiently boosted.
Party Thyme is also a useful plant to use with this trick, as you draw an extra card. As Chompzilla, playing it on Venus Flytrap or any plant in Venus Flytraplanet can allow it to attack once more in order to heal her again.
While mostly ignored, the added stat boost is very considerable at times. Using it correctly allows certain plants to make quick work of zombies with the Armored trait, or maybe let your plant take one more hit from a certain zombie.
This can be used more effectively on plants with attacking traits:
- Double Strike plants like Gatling Pea and Bananasaurus Rex can take out a zombie that stands in their way, allowing it to damage the zombie hero twice during the "Fight!" phase. Alternatively, if there are no zombies in the way, they can do heavy damage to the Zombie Hero immediately.
- Bullseye plants like Gloom-Shroom, Blockbuster and Jugger-Nut do not charge your opponent's Super-Block Meter, allowing free damage on them. If a Zombie is in the way, the attack can be used to take down said zombie and clear the way for a devastating unblockable hit. Only Grass Knuckles and Captain Combustible can do this normally
- Strikethrough plants like Astrocado and Power Flower can not only hit the zombie in their lane but also the Zombie Hero. Only Chompzilla can do this normally.
- Splash Damage plants or any plants that attack in multiple lanes like Snapdragon and Tricorn can take out powerful threats or Deadly zombies, as well as do damage to the other zombies next to it. Note that the Splash Damage doesn't scale with strength, whereas plants that attack in multiple lanes do scale. Only Green Shadow can do this normally.
- Anti-Hero plants can take out a weak zombie on its way to do a whopping damage to the opposing hero on the "Fight!" phase. If there are no Zombies in the way, this allows the Anti-Hero plant to instantly inflict heavy damage before the Zombie Hero could put a stop to it through tricks. Only Captain Combustible can do this normally.
Counters to this trick are Bonus Track Buckethead and Gargantuar Mime, as Bonus Track Buckethead can disable that plant's bonus attack while Gargantuar Mime can copy that plant's bonus attack, unless you use it on Imitater, which happens to be a weak plant. As the Mega-Grow class lacks options to deal with them, it's recommended to pack removal cards from the secondary class of whatever hero in use.
Against
There is not much that you are able to do for the bonus attack apart from using. In general, you would want to stop it by filling all lanes with zombies and keep your health high by making smart plays so you'd have at least a card to spare in case if they do try. You can also manipulate the block meter for it to absorb the hit. While you can technically use a Gravestone or Shielding with the likes of Zombie Coach, your options are limited against Green Shadow and especially Chompzilla, as Strikethrough plants can still hit you, while plants that hit in multiple lanes directly or through splash damage is still going to cause some mayhem.
Playing Defensive End is one viable solution, as it increases Plant Food's already high cost by 2. However, as Defensive End is very expensive, he may not meaningfully deter Plant Food if it is played earlier into the game
The best counter, however, is Bonus Track Buckethead, as his ability negates the bonus attack of this trick, which completely discourages your opponent from playing it. Gargantuar Mime is also a perfect solution, as he usually just dupes the Bonus Attack, though he is less consistent, as Plant Food can be potentially used on a plant in his lane to destroy him.
