Potato Mine is an explosiveplant introduced in Plants vs. Zombies 3. He explodes when zombies get near him, dealing heavy damage to it and all other zombies on his tile.
About
For more information about this character, see Potato Mine.
Potato Mine is a defensive plant obtained by the player after beating Dave's House, Level 4.
He costs 1 sun and he explodes when a zombie approaches him, dealing heavy damage to the zombie and other zombies on its tile. However he needs time to arm himself first, being unable to attack until he surfaces.
When the Tacobility effect is activated, Potato Mine instantly arms himself.
Plant Food effect
When the Plant Food effect of Tacobility is used, Potato Mine will launch up to 2 armed copies of himself onto available tiles.
Strategies
Potato Mines are a good way to rid Bucketheads and Gargantuars so use them for the either of them. You can use Snow Pea to slow zombies and Potato Mine to explode them so you could have a damage combo in the levels, good for the Column Crash Course event if you are grinding for a high ranking. It's best to keep your Potato Mines safe if you want them to surface out of the ground to clear a group of clunked zombies.

Potato Mine doesn't SPUDOW! for the glory, the fame, or the multi-movie deal he's negotiating with Starchmore Studios. He does it because he's got a crush on Sweet Potato. He's counting on his bestie, Sun Bean, not to spill the beans.

Upgrades
Plant Food effect
Potato Mine's Plant Food ability is named Potato Salad, in which Potato Mine will spawn two random Potato Mines in two random tiles on the lawn. These Potato Mines still need to arm themselves before attacking though. Potato Salad can be further upgraded to allow more Potato Mines to be spawned.
Tacobility
Potato Mine's Tacobility is named Hothead, which allows Potato Mine to bounce a random lane to arm and explode again. Promoting an unarmed Potato Mine with a taco instantly arms him. Hothead can be upgraded to deal extra damage than the standard Potato Mine.
Balancing changes
March 24th, 2020 Patch
▲ Taco’d Potato Mine now has a base 25% to spawn another taco’d Potato Mine after it explodes
▼ Damage boost it gains per level of Tacobility has reduced by ~50%
▼ Level 1: From ? -> 50%
▲ New Potato Mines spawned by other Potato Mines can appear anywhere on the lawn and no longer restricted to the first 5 columns
PopCap Note: Potato Mine's Tacobility, when combined with stall tactics that let players fill up their entire board with plants, made for a strategy that let promoted Potato Mines perpetually bounce around the right-most column. This trivialized game difficulty in a way that wasn't intended. While we work on ways to discourage excessive stalling, in the meantime Potato Mine has had his Tacobility tweaked to make this strategy less reliable.
