Pea Pod is good because you can upgrade it gradiently. Instead of spending a bunch of sun at one time, upgrade when things get tougher and tougher. The only exception here is the Gargantuars. Please, just use instant kills.

Also, Lightning Reed is good behind a Pea Pod, because Lighning Reed can splash any zombies in upper and lower rows, supporting all the Pea Pods in a 3 row area.

So, I think Lightning Reed + Pea Pod is the best combo (unless you add Torchwood) and Pea Pod is the best peashooting plant.
