If you haven't read it yet, read 'The Outsiders' by S. E. Hinton. It's a good book, and an old one too. The description of the imp fits 'greaser' well. It will make sense when you read it( the term greaser, the book itself might need to be reread again and again to understand, I tried rereading this one page. I am pretty sure it had to do with a gay guy because the narrator calls that guy disgusting for digging somebody else)
