In a manner of fact, the only reason the plants got out of the rule, was because most people blindly supported your vote that just had "They don't look/sound feminine/masculine!!!11"
I think the PLANTS should have genders, at least some. I mean, the games mention Chomper, Corn, Peashooter, and Citron as boys, while Cactus, Sunflower, and Rose are girls.
Peashooter is "described as male" indeed on the almanac, however, the hero Green Shadow is female. Would you like  to explain to me, why did she somehow "change sex"?
Or maybe Chomper, also considered male by the almanac, has a female hero called Chompzilla. Again, care to explain to me why the gender change?
Okay, I don't know, I don't work for PopCap, but a lot of fans probably wanted some female Peashooters and Chompers, but Citron is definitely going to stay a boy.
My theory of why the only female plants got turned into heroes is maybe.... theyr one of a kind?

That's actually a pretty good idea... but I doubt it. I mean, not ALL Peashooters are boys. The PVZ2 Fire Pea is a girl, and it is right in the almanac.
