The thing is not every damn Peashooter is male and every Sunflower female. We have examples of this exact principle, from PvZH's Green Shadow to the PvZ Comic's Fred the Sunflower. When referring to the Almanac, it might be acceptable, but we can't assume that all of those thousands of Laser Beans we plant and Bucketheads we fight are all male when we use the same evidence as Peashooters and Sunflowers for that, both of which have both sexes represented.

The gender refers not to all species, but the specific Almanac character!
