Characters are stronger or weaker against each other depending on their Damage Type.

Damage Types are a feature in Plants vs. Zombies 3, released on May 2020. Each plant and zombie has one. Damage Types determine if a plant/zombie's attack is strong, weak, or normal against an enemy. Strong attacks do extra damage (+200% extra damage), while weak attacks do reduced damage (-50% less damage).

Here is a list of all 5 damage types:

Normal

Normal Damage Icon.png
Damage done and received is unaffected by Damage Type.

Normal plants are not affected by Damage Types. They deal the same amount of damage to every zombie and the damage taken from zombies goes unchanged. Normal zombies are also not affected by Damage Types. They receive the same amount of damage from every plant and deal the same amount of damage to every plant.

Hot

Hot Damage Icon.png
Strong vs. Earthy
Weak vs. Chilly

Hot plants deal extra damage to Earthy zombies and less damage to Chilling zombies.

Earthy

Earthy Damage Icon.png

Weak vs. Hot

Earthy plants deal extra damage to Electric zombies and less damage to Hot zombies.

Electric

Electric Damage Icon.png

Weak vs. Earthy

Electric plants deal extra damage to Chilling zombies and less damage to Earthy zombies.

Chilling

Chilling Damage Icon.png

Weak vs. Electric

Chilling plants deal extra damage to Hot zombies and less damage to Electric zombies.
