The release date may follow the Summer Nights 2 event (featuring Explode-o-nut). There will be an event in PvZ 2 (and hopefully GW2) to lead up to it's release.

Plus, according to some of the dialogue, Solar Flare has a mild crush on Electric Boogaloo. Yes, this is canon.
