Forretress (Spikes) @ Leftovers

-Spikes
-Hidden Power [Bug]
-Rapid Spin
-Explosion | Toxic

This set has one major goal: get Spikes down and keep them there. Forretress will have plenty of opportunities to switch in and set up entry hazards thanks to its myriad of resistances and great Defense stat. The move options are fairly simple and can be tailored to fit an individual team's needs. The first moveslot is dedicated to Spikes, which should be Forretress's first priority upon switching in. Once Spikes are down, Forretress has several options to choose from while supporting its team. Hidden Power Bug is a great option because it will threaten Starmie, the most common spinner in OU, with a 2HKO. This kind of pressure makes the opponent hard-pressed to bring in their spinner, allowing for more opportunities to rack up Spikes damage. The last two moveslots allow Forretress the flexibility to play slightly different support roles. With Rapid Spin, Forretress can transition from Spikes user to Spikes remover. While Forretress surely isn't the best spinner available, it can still support its team by removing Spikes once the opponent's Spikes user has been KOed. Toxic is useful in the last slot to nail Cloyster switch-ins and is a great option against Misdreavus looking to block Rapid Spin. At the very least, it will force opponents to use Rest or Heal Bell sooner than they would have liked. Explosion is a more offensive option that allows Forretress to make good use of its base 90 Attack. Forretress's Explosion is slow but useful in emergency situations against Snorlax, Vaporeon, or Marowak, all of which can easily set up on Forretress while it uses Spikes. However, mispredicting an Explosion can be extremely detrimental as Forretress is usually the only Spikes user on its team. Losing it can give the opponent an important advantage in laying and removing Spikes. Forretress's Explosion is not nearly as dangerous as Cloyster's and should be used with good judgment or when completely necessary. It should also be noted that Forretress can use that fourth slot to run a set with Explosion, Rapid Spin, and Spikes, a move combination that Cloyster cannot use.

This set might seem similar to the one Cloyster runs, but it plays very differently. Forretress is more defensive than Cloyster and often focuses on retaining Spikes in the long run. Forretress works well on teams centered around taking advantage of Spikes in a stall-heavy metagame. One great teammate is Misdreavus, which can wall Rapid Spin and Explosion while threatening opponents with a Perish Song + Mean Look combo. Phazers such as Raikou, Skarmory, and Suicune pair wonderfully with Spikes support. Skarmory offers not only Whirlwind support, but also the ability to check Snorlax that try and set up on Forretress. Raikou has complementary Special Defense and the added benefit a STAB Thunder to threaten opposing users of Rapid Spin and Spikes, such as Starmie and Cloyster. Zapdos really enjoys the extra damage Spikes can provide against Snorlax and its many grounded counters, such as Raikou and Quagsire. Pursuit support from a Pokemon such as Tyranitar or Houndoom will remove or seriously damage any Misdreavus or Gengar switch-ins looking to block Rapid Spin.

Zapdos (RestTalk) @ Leftovers

-Thunder | Thunderbolt
-Hidden Power [Ice] | Hidden Power [Water]
-Rest
-Sleep Talk

This set is what makes Zapdos such a powerful threat. Great Special Attack combined with the ability to perpetually get rid of status and restore health with virtually no drawbacks turns Zapdos into a powerful tank. This set capitalizes on Zapdos's high Special Attack, allowing it to slam the numerous physical threats with its powerful STAB or Hidden Power. The choice between Thunder and Thunderbolt depends on what your team needs more: power or consistency. Defensive teams will often prefer the consistent accuracy and high PP of Thunderbolt, while offensive teams will typically favor Thunder's significantly higher Base Power. Thunder will allow Zapdos to do far more damage, however, specifically 2HKOing Miltank and possibly 3HKOing Snorlax with Spikes support or a critical hit; its 30% chance of paralysis also wards off potential switch-ins such as Raikou and Jolteon. Thunderbolt is less powerful than Thunder, but its perfect accuracy gives it more consistency against threats such as Belly Drum Charizard, Growth Vaporeon, and the occasional Swords Dance Tentacruel. Hidden Power Ice offers wonderful coverage against many of the threats Thunder cannot deal with, such as Rhydon and Exeggutor, as well as opposing Zapdos if you don't want to risk Thunder missing. Together, the two moves have pseudo-BoltBeam coverage, hitting every single Pokemon in OU for neutral damage. Hidden Power Water is a notable option if you want to hit Ground-types such as Rhydon and Steelix harder. However, the extra coverage from Hidden Power Ice, especially against Exeggutor, is generally more useful. The lasts two slots are devoted to Rest and Sleep Talk. With these two moves, Zapdos makes a great status absorber and tank, as well as a more consistent check to Vaporeon and Exeggutor. Sleep Talk eliminates almost all of the downsides of using Rest and gives Zapdos the ability to stay healthy and pose a threat. With its good defenses, RestTalk Zapdos will be difficult to take down without a critical hit or a powerful, super effective attack, such as Rock Slide or Ice Beam.

Running Drill Peck over Hidden Power Ice will give Zapdos a better match-up against threats such as Heracross, Machamp, and Exeggutor, but the loss of coverage is notable. Zapdos can also consider running Hidden Power Grass to deal a lot of damage to Quagsire that switch in expecting to sponge Thunder or Hidden Power Ice.

Zapdos loves Spikes support because its main counters, namely Quagsire, Exeggutor, and Raikou are all grounded and will be far easier to deal with after Spikes damage. Cloyster makes a great partner in this regard, as it can both lay Spikes and hammer troublesome Ground-types with Surf. Offensive partners such as Gengar and Exeggutor are a great help to Zapdos as well, because they lure in the three major walls that trouble Zapdos--Blissey, Raikou, and Snorlax--and can use a strong Explosion to KO or severely weaken them. Exeggutor can check Quagsire with ease while Gengar acts as an effective lure to it. Zapdos also enjoys support from Snorlax, which can take on problematic opponents such as Raikou, Jolteon, and Blissey, while a Raikou of your own will take on opposing Electric-types with ease. On more defensive teams, Zapdos enjoys support from a good Snorlax check such as Skarmory or Miltank. With Toxic, Spikes, and phazing support, Zapdos can become truly terrifying.

Lapras (RestTalk) @ Leftovers

-Ice Beam
-Thunderbolt
-Rest
-Sleep Talk

Lapras and Lanturn are pretty similar in GSC, and both of them have the HP to play the RestTalk game. Make sure you take advantage of the STAB Ice Beam that Lanturn lacks. It's bulky, predictable, and generic, but it won't die anytime soon.

Lapras (Tank) @ Leftovers

-Confuse Ray
-Ice Beam
-Thunder
-Reflect | Sing | Surf

This set blends the subtle combination of support and attacking that Lapras provides. Confuse Ray is a tad underrated as a move, but the 50% chance of incapacitation it provides is quite useful indeed for things like Snorlax. Ice Beam and Thunder, again, is a solid attack combination; Thunder gets the nod here due to its increased chance of paralysis, which makes adding an attack like Body Slam nigh redundant, as either Ice Beam or Thunder will do more to any of Lapras's switch-ins than Body Slam (the exception being Blissey, which Body Slam doesn't damage enough to be useful). The last move is a tossup; Surf grants a bit more attacking versatility against the likes of Tyranitar and Steelix. If the opponent is confused, Lapras has a better chance of not getting hurt while trying to surprise an opponent with Sing. Finally, Reflect is an honorable option which will soften the potential blow that a physical counter like Snorlax can inflict.

Mantine stinks, plain and simple. Use Hydro Pump because Mantine needs the power, and Confuse Ray and Toxic because it won't do enough with just Hydro Pump and that terrible 258 Special Attack, STAB-boosted or not. Haze is there because it can't do much else.

Ampharos (Lead / Cleaner)

-Thunderbolt

Ampharos can make a great lead, as it can shut down Spikers before they can set up Spikes. Thunderbolt is a given for that STAB which is great for those Water- and Flying-types, and Fire Punch will hit the Grass-types who resist Thunderbolt. Fire Punch also hits Forretress (a common lead with Spikes) and Steelix, arguably the most popular Ground-type. If your opponent switches in a special wall like Snorlax or Blissey, you can paralyze it with Thunder Wave (it also helps for other things since Ampharos is slow), and have a chance to start out ahead with Dynamic Punch. If it hits, you can have a potentially paralyzed and confused opponent, which makes it hard for them to do anything. A popular alternative is Hidden Power Ice, which will hit almost all Ground-types for super effective damage while still being super effective on Grass-types.

Ampharos (RestTalk)

-Thunderbolt
-Fire Punch
-Rest
-Sleep Talk

Ampharos is a sturdy Electric and can easily be switched into a lot of Water-types, so we can let him RestTalk if you need one on your team to eat status. Thunderbolt and Fire Punch are a good little combo of attacks. You can also use Hidden Power Ice over Fire Punch if you like.

Psychic also makes Slowbro a pretty decent answer to Tentacruel. When Slowbro's on low health, heal up with Rest--Slowbro can easily survive the downtime.

Wigglytuff (Physical Attacker)

-Thunder Wave
-Body Slam | Double-Edge
-Hyper Beam
-Blizzard | Bubble Beam

Wigglytuff should primarily attack with Body Slam. Thunder Wave is useful in paralyzing opposing Pokemon, which supports the rest of your team. Wigglytuff also can serve as a physical sweeper late in battles. Bubble Beam will always 2HKO Golem and will 2HKO Rhydon most of the time. Blizzard is much less likely to 2HKO them, but is more useful against Gengar, Dragonite, and a lot of UU Pokemon. Otherwise you should use physical attacks because Wigglytuff's Special is sub-par.

Lickitung (Swords Dance)

-Swords Dance
-Earthquake
-Hyper Beam
-Body Slam

If you look at Lickitung, you can see it has decent HP, but mediocre to lousy everything else. It's tied with Porygon for the third lowest total stats for a fully-evolved Normal Pokemon. So what makes it usable? Why should you use it instead of anything else, even in UU? The answer: Swords Dance.

Lickitung is the only pure Normal Pokemon that can learn Swords Dance, and it is pretty much a must if you want Lickitung to be useful. It's best to wait for late-game when all the Pokemon are paralyzed so it can set up. Once it gets a couple Swords Dances up, it's all gravy. After two Swords Dances, even Exeggutor falls to the mighty Hyper Beam. Body Slam is for when you don't think Hyper Beam can KO yet. Earthquake is for Rock-types and Gengar, obviously.

In UU, it should be your choice if you want a strong sweeper and don't mind setting up a turn. Its Speed sucks a little more here, since paralysis is used more sparsely, but its stats don't pale as much in comparison to UU Pokemon as they do to OU.

Movesets

Suggested Moveset:
Persian (Slash)

-Slash
-Bubble Beam
-Hyper Beam
-Body Slam | Screech | Thunderbolt

Slash is the main attack you will be using. Hyper Beam is for when you need something a tad stronger or are trying to get a critical hit using Persian's Speed. Bubble Beam is to deal with Rhydon and Golem. Thunderbolt can paralyze Gengar on the switch and hurt Cloyster. Body Slam is useful to deal damage with STAB and give a chance at paralysis. You probably won't be using the last move too much anyway, so you don't need to feel hugely pressured with the choice. Screech can be of use, especially against Starmie, which is OHKOed (most of the time) by a Hyper Beam after a Screech, so they either must switch or risk dying. If you are left one-on-one at the end of the game, Screech will win you the game.

Screech can help Persian defeat Starmie and Chansey that aren't paralyzed. Against Starmie, however, the secret is to Screech and then Bubble Beam. Bubble Beam would bring Starmie into guaranteed KO range for Hyper Beam, and also has the chance of catching your opponent switching Rhydon or Golem into Persian who aren't aware of this strategy and are expecting Hyper Beam.

Simply Swords Dance and sweep. Watch out, though, as this set can't touch Gengar, and Gengar is very common. Also, Pinsir's Special is rubbish--it usually just barely survives two hits from Starmie's Surf, but most other STAB special moves will 2HKO Pinsir.

Kangaskhan (Physical Attacker)

-Body Slam
-Hyper Beam
-Counter | Earthquake
-Counter | Surf

Kangaskhan should Body Slam most of the time, and try to finish things off with its STAB Hyper Beam. Earthquake is mainly for Gengar, to avoid Counter, and for the odd Electric- and Poison-types.

Surf is for Golem and Rhydon--it shouldn't be used on anything else--to take advantage of their 4x weakness (it will do about 70% to both of them).

Counter makes it interesting. With the right predictions and perhaps the element of surprise, it may end up making a difference in a Kangaskhan vs Tauros / Snorlax war.

Suggested Moveset:
Dragonite (AgiliWrap)

-Agility
-Wrap
-Hyper Beam
-Blizzard | Surf

Here it is, possibly the most annoying set in all of Pokemon history. It's more than just annoying, however; it's absolutely deadly if luck is on your side. Agility boosts Dragonite's Speed above that of any unboosted Pokemon in the game. It then proceeds to take advantage of Wrap's debilitating mechanics by repeatedly using the move to render any switch-in unable to move, while slowly whittling away at the opposing Pokemon's health. Wrap can even be used to immobilize Gengar, which is immune to Normal-type moves, although Gengar is unlike other Wrap victims in that it does not take damage while incapacitated by Wrap. It is, however, not easy to find a good moment to use Agility, due to the prevalence of Ice-type and paralysis-inducing moves in RBY. Switching into the occasional sleeping or frozen Pokemon lets Dragonite set up Agility safely, however. Otherwise, slow Pokemon such as Golem, Rhydon, Snorlax, and Exeggutor that lack Stun Spore are good options to switch in and set up on. Taking a hit from them, however, means that Dragonite is now OHKOed by unSTAB-boosted Ice-type attacks.

Once the opponent's Pokemon has been worn down to low enough health, Dragonite can use one of its other two attacking moves to secure the KO. Hyper Beam is generally the best option, as it is the strongest attack in Dragonite's movepool. Dragonite will usually be able to avoid Hyper Beam's incapacitating side effect as Wrap is meant to first put Pokemon in Hyper Beam's OHKO range. It lacks STAB, but comes from a base 134 Attack stat. Surf is the preferred option in the last slot as it guarantees an OHKO on the Rock / Ground types Golem and Rhydon. Blizzard can be used in its place to heavily damage Golem and Rhydon, but also to give Dragonite its best direct attack to use against Gengar. It also works as an alternative finishing move for Pokemon such as Zapdos and Exeggutor and, unlike Hyper Beam, does not force Dragonite to recharge if it does not OHKO.

Dragonite is generally saved for a sweep and, as such, appreciates support from teammates that can spread paralysis directly. Not only does paralysis make Dragonite faster than the opponent without it having to use Agility, but a full paralysis might also save Dragonite if Wrap misses. Alakazam, Chansey, Starmie, Exeggutor, Slowbro, and Zapdos are all Pokemon that can perform that role excellently. The former options can tank hits from many threats as well, while the latter two provide more offensive pressure. The choices should depend on how offensive you want your team to be, although it should be noted that Alakazam and Slowbro are generally the best options to spread paralysis.

In addition, 'Dragonite is able to do more than merely sweep with Wrap; if it gets in on a predicted switch to a slow Pokemon, such as Exeggutor, Snorlax, or Chansey, or on a predicted Earthquake from Rhydon or Golem, it can use Wrap against whatever your opponent might decide to switch in. Dragonite can then switch out to a counter, which is guaranteed to take no damage from the switch-in thanks to Wrap's immobilization effect. Dragonite's ability to act as a pivot makes it a decent mid-game partner for heavy-hitters such as Snorlax and Rhydon to let them switch in on paralyzed foes with impunity. Moreover, as Wrap can still immobilize Gengar, hard-hitters such as Snorlax, Rhydon, Golem, and Tauros also synergize well with Dragonite in this regard. If Gengar switches into Wrap, you can immediately go to a powerful sweeper without taking damage thanks to Wrap's mechanics. Earthquake will generally scare Gengar out, giving Dragonite the possibility of punishing whatever your opponent switches in.

Have it as your lead and use Sleep Powder on their first Pokemon, then follow up with Stun Spore as they switch to another. Continue paralyzing when they switch, and try to attack when they don't. Double powdering requires some prediction (i.e. you Stun Spore a Pokemon, and use Stun Spore again, while your opponent leaves it in. They think you'll switch, so maybe Stun Spore for a third straight time, and catch a Pokemon that thinks it's getting a free switch-in). Mega Drain is there for healing and for dealing with Water-, Rock-, or Ground-types.

If you switch Scyther in, you need to be almost positive that your opponent is not using an attacking move. Swords Dance on the switch, Agility if needed, and sweep with Hyper Beam. Marowak (All-Out Attacker)

-Earthquake
-Blizzard
-Body Slam
-Seismic Toss

This is the standard 'Marowak set—Earthquake gets STAB and Body Slam grants possible paralysis support. Blizzard grants odd coverage for Grass- and Flying-types, especially Dragonite. Seismic Toss completes the set with its steady 100 damage.

Movesets

Suggested Movesets:
Tangela (Bind)

-Bind
-Hyper Beam | Sleep Powder
-Stun Spore
-Mega Drain

Bind is a slightly more inaccurate Wrap. If you're lucky, you will kill something with this. Sleep something, then try to paralyze something else. Repeatedly Bind as your opponent cannot move, and then kill with Hyper Beam when they're on low health. Again, Mega Drain is to be used against Rock / Ground Pokemon.

Tangela (Double Powder)

-Sleep Powder
-Stun Spore
-Growth
-Mega Drain

Really, if Tangela learned Razor Leaf, it would be awesome. It has decent HP, bad Attack, below average Speed, and great Defense and Special. Simply put, Tangela takes less percentage damage from physical attacks than Exeggutor, which means Persian owns it just a little less.

Tangela (Swords Dance)

-Swords Dance
-Body Slam
-Sleep Powder | Stun Spore
-Hyper Beam | Mega Drain

This is mostly a novelty set. You can mix and match the moves and it will work about as well. Sleep Powder is to put something to sleep and give you a free turn to Swords Dance. Stun Spore makes enemies slower than you as long as you're not paralyzed as well. Mega Drain kills Rhydon and Golem (or Onix if you play UU), while Hyper Beam is more powerful than Body Slam and should be used as a finisher.

Movesets

Suggested Moveset:
Zapdos (Mixed Attacker)

-Thunderbolt
-Drill Peck
-Thunder Wave
-Agility

This set takes full advantage of Zapdos's superb stats. It has an amazing Special backed up by a very good Attack, and combined with its decent Speed, it can and will cause some havoc. The problem lies in its inability to hurt Rock / Ground types such as Golem and Rhydon, which happen to be on nearly every RBY team. Remove these threats and Zapdos can wreck opposing teams.

Thunderbolt coupled with Drill Peck will cause some very good damage to anything not named Golem or Rhydon (or any other Rock / Ground). Thunder Wave can slow down any incoming Pokemon so they can be easy pickings for Zapdos later on in the match. The fourth move is a wild card and completely up to the user. All of these moves have their advantages but none outshines the rest.

Agility causes Zapdos to become faster than everything else and ignores the Speed drop that comes with paralysis (Zapdos can still become fully paralyzed, however).

Movesets

Suggested Moveset:
Golem (Standard)

-Body Slam
-Earthquake
-Rock Slide
-Explosion

Golem is an extremely valuable Pokemon that should be considered on every team due to its amazing Defense, very good Attack, and important resistance to Normal-type attacks. Earthquake and Body Slam are its main attacks, with Rock Slide and Explosion playing specialty roles. Earthquake is a really solid attack that does plenty of damage to anything not immune or resistant to it. Body Slam is the backup, used for predicting switches and inflicting paralysis, something Golem appreciates quite a bit. Rock Slide is for any Flying Pokemon that Golem comes across and the odd Lapras or Jynx.

Explosion is the last ditch effort to remove any problematic Pokemon or to do massive damage before Golem is KOed by the opponent. The threat of an incoming Explosion will always be on your opponent's mind, and it is important to not use Explosion at an overly obvious time to avoid Exploding right into a Gengar or opposing Rock-type. The threat of Explosion is a great tool for playing prediction games with your opponent, as if you play it right, you can Earthquake a Gengar coming in to nullify your Explosion.

Movesets

Suggested Moveset:
Electrode (Support)

-Thunder | Thunderbolt
-Thunder Wave
-Explosion
-Screech

Electrode is most famous for having the highest Speed of any Pokemon in the game, and with it comes the highest critical hit rate (27.45%). Other than its Speed, Electrode doesn't have much going for it: poor defenses, equally poor Attack, mediocre Special, and a bad movepool. Electrode is best used as a hit and run Pokemon that uses Thunder Wave to paralyze as many of the opponent's Pokemon as possible. When its usefulness is up, Explode for a decent chunk of damage. Keep Electrode healthy, as it will not like taking attacks from other Pokemon at all. If you like to press your luck, you can try to keep Electrode around by hoping for critical hits and full paralysis, and directly attack the opponent with Thunder/Thunderbolt. Use prediction and Electrode can actually be quite useful, though not as good as other Pokemon like Jolteon.

Seadra (Special Attacker)

-Hydro Pump | Surf
-Blizzard
-Smokescreen
-Mimic

With Hydro Pump, Seadra stands a chance against Tauros, which it can manage to 2HKO on average. Anyone who doesn't feel too good with gambling on Hydro Pump can use Surf. Blizzard is to hit some Pokemon that resist Water for super effective damage and to try to freeze Pokemon if anything.

Using Mimic can help against Starmie switch-ins against Seadra, providing a chance of getting either Thunderbolt or Thunder Wave, both of which can help against it.

Finally, there's Smokescreen, which is good to annoy anything that could possibly be switched in. It would probably work best if that switched-in Pokemon is an already paralyzed Chansey.
