That means not only some people can play it, but all information revealed through the beta must be considered secret, and nobody can share it, outside of the Devs themselves. Until the game goes into open Beta, will you will not be allowed to freely post information. Betas are primarily used for testing the receptions according to people, and to experiment and find out any bugs, exploits, or other complications before release. The reason why PvZA is in closed beta is perhaps because PopCap wants the common public to not know anything about the game too specific.

It's not accepted here, on the PvZ Wiki, and Minh could get himself blocked or demoted for friendship unblocking you. When you joined the Beta, you had to sign a terms of agreement. In it, said you weren't supposed to reveal any information you discovered in the beta. That's the reason why you were blocked in the first place, along with several other users. I prefer to keep my identity a secret to everyone but myself.

I think Android's main game data may actually be stored somewhere else, like maybe downloaded separately or something, because I've never been able to find anything in an APK file.

I tried out the Imitater in my game files, and it looks great! Except the hat isn't updated, and it appears out of place with the old image. Since you said it worked perfectly, I'm assuming you just forgot to upload it?

If possible though, take parts of plants from PvZ2, use their parts to help create new versions of plants. At that point, squish it, squash it, recolour it, do whatever you need until done. Hopefully then you have good enough textures. If you still can't, I will. There's very few plants left.
