No, Dry Bones is not a reference to Plants vs. Zombies.

Super Mario Bros. 3 was when Dry Bones was first a thing. And that was 1988.

Plants vs. Zombies was 2009.

And I don't think Nintendo has access to time machines.

Sincerely, please; don't try to call things that are coincidences at best/blatantly stretching it for the sake of farming edits at worst a "reference". If memory serves me right, prolonged instances of doing that is actually against our rules.

And that's terrible.
