Veteran zombies are upgraded zombies that only appear in levels of world expansions in Plants vs. Zombies 2.
In the international version, each world has their expansion include exactly 3 veteran zombies, being a Brickhead variant (a basic zombie with armor even tougher than a bucket), a Rally variant (a faster and tougher Flag Zombie that replaces the latter most of the time) and a veteran counterpart of one of the world's special zombies (such as Torchlight, who is an Explorer with much higher health and speed).
The veteran zombies found in the chinese version act quite differently, with each one, excluding Mammoth-Head, also being an Elite zombie that acts as a mini-boss of sorts rather than a normal zombie. All of them that have been released so far also share a "resistance bar" mechanic, where they have a shield that heavily protects them from damage that isn't of a certain type, currently only fire, that coexists with the zombie's natural HP. Once the bar is depleted, the zombie will be stunned for some time as their resistance bar regenrates, all attacks will do full damage while the stun is in effect.
