UH OH, HE'S HERE. THE GWERTZMAN.

Crazy Dave

James Level is an easter egg mini-game in the iPad version of Plants vs. Zombies: Great Wall Edition. The mini-game was made for James Gwertzman, the former general manager of Asia/Pacific PopCap, as celebration for his work for the studio as he was leaving. The level is a conveyor-belt level very similar to Dr. Zomboss's Revenge, however with less types of zombies. All the zombies, along with the fireball, are changed to resemble PopCap Shanghai employees, with James Gwertzman himself wearing a santa hat replacing Dr. Zomboss.

Dialogue

(Crazy Dave appears)
Crazy Dave: UH OH, HE'S HERE. THE GWERTZMAN.
Crazy Dave: LISTEN THOUGH, I KNOW WHAT HIS WEAKNESS IS:
Crazy Dave: NOT GOOD AT LEARNING FOREIGN LANGUAGES...
Crazy Dave: YOU'RE RIGHT, THAT'S IRRELEVANT.
Crazy Dave: AH! I GOT IT... YOU'RE GOING TO NEED...
Crazy Dave: WHAT'S THAT WORD AGAIN... ASPARAGUS?
Crazy Dave: NO THAT'S NOT IT. UH... ALLIGATORS?
Crazy Dave: WAIT, I REMEMBER! IT'S...
Crazy Dave: ALIGNMENT!
(Crazy Dave leaves)

Trivia

  • Upon losing the level, the "THE ZOMBIES ATE YOUR BRAINS!" message is replaced with a message saying "JAMES ATE YOUR BRAINS!"
  • This is the only part of Plants vs. Zombies: Great Wall Edition almost fully in English, as the level name and dialogue are English.
    • This is likely because Gwertzman did not know Chinese very well, as the dialogue pokes fun at him for not being good at learning foreign languages.
  • This level was played live at a Christmas party meeting PopCap Shanghai employees held, as the party was also for celebrating James Gwertzman.[4]
  • The icon uses the Day Roof background, despite taking place at Night Roof.
