Column Like You See 'Em 2 (排山倒海2; pinyin: Páishāndǎohǎi Èr) is a conveyor-belt mini-game in Plants vs. Zombies: Original Edition that takes place at Night. The gimmick of this level is that planting a seed packet on a slot will fill the whole respective column with that plant, multiplying it by five. If one or more spaces (not exceeding five) on any of the tiles in the column are occupied by other plants, no plant will appear in place of the plant and the plant you planted will either be one, two, three, or four and will either appear on the first, second, third, fourth, or fifth lane in that column. The entire level consists of three huge waves. The game goes almost immediately to the first huge wave upon starting the game and in each wave, the zombies come in large groups.

Origins

It is based on Column Like You See 'Em, a mini-game from the original version, whose name is a pun on Midnight Brown's song Call 'em like you see 'em! from his album, 2084.

Plants

Only one column of Tall-nuts is provided at the start of the level.

The player will always receive one column of Tall-nuts, Fume-shrooms, Squashes and Split Peas at the start of the level.

General tips

  • As only one column of Tall-nuts is provided, it is recommended not to place them in the very front, but rather on the fourth column from the right to prevent Backup Dancers from pushing too far.
  • Squashes and Ice-shrooms can wither the storm of zombies.
  • Saving Ice-shrooms for emergencies can be helpful.
  • Split Peas should not be placed at the leftmost column as a large amount of Digger Zombies can emerge and eat them.
  • The player can save two Squashes for Gargantuars to defeat them before the Imps are thrown.

Trivia

  • It is one of only three mini-games that plays "Ultimate Battle" as its soundtrack, the other being Column Like You See 'Em, its prequel, and the Nintendo DS version of Air Raid.
  • Like other levels that have it, Gargantuars will never appear on the top lane.
  • It will start without the zombies saying "The zombies are coming", as it starts with a huge wave approaching.
  • The first six plants are always Tall-nut, Squash, Fume-shroom, Split Pea, and Ice-shrooms, in that order. Two random plants will also spawn on the conveyor-belt before the frequency of plants slows down dramatically. These plants vary from Squash, Ice-shroom, Pumpkin, Split Pea to Fume-shroom. Squash and Ice-shroom are the most common plants.
  • Despite the setting, the shovel does not remove an entire column of plants.
