Newspaper Zombie

The newspaper is the shield used by Newspaper Zombies in Plants vs. Zombies, both versions of Plants vs. Zombies 2, Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare, and Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2. It is the weakest shield and is the third weakest armor in Plants vs Zombies.

Overview

In Plants vs. Zombies, the newspaper absorbs up to 160 damage and degrades upon absorbing 60 and 120 damage.

In Plants vs. Zombies 2, the newspaper absorbs 800 damage and degrades upon absorbing 270 and 540 damage.

The newspaper serves as a shield for the Newspaper Zombie. If the newspaper is destroyed, the zombie will stop for approximately two seconds, before getting angry and running at approximately double the speed towards the player's plants in that lane. The newspaper, however, is not particularly sturdy, and can be easily destroyed with a simple Peashooter.

lobber plants, Fume-shrooms, Gloom-shrooms, Spikeweeds, and Spikerocks can hurt the Newspaper Zombie directly, bypassing the shield entirely. Note that the shield, like all shields, allows the newspaper to avoid the elemental effects of fire peas and frozen peas.

Like the previous game, the newspaper serves as a shield for the Newspaper Zombie. If the newspaper is destroyed, the Newspaper Zombie will stop for approximately two seconds, before getting angry and running at approximately double the speed towards the player's plants in that lane, also it can destroy plants very quickly. It is recommended to have a slowing plant to slow it down.

Trivia

General

• The zombie is holding his newspaper upside down.
• This is the first shield that appears in the series.

Plants vs. Zombies

• According to the Suburban Almanac, the zombie was completing a Sudoku puzzle before the newspaper was destroyed. However, it is not seen on the newspaper itself.
• It has the word "ZOMBIE" on it.

Plants vs. Zombies 2

• It will catch fire when attacked by a fire-based plant, but this is purely cosmetic.
• The Almanac mentions that the zombie was completing a crossword puzzle instead.
• It has the words "Daily Brain" on it.
• Unlike the first game, lobber plants or area effect plants will damage the newspaper first even though they clearly appear to be ignoring it.
