Let's Switch things up a bit
The Nintendo Switch version has a different weekly event schedule than other versions of Battle for Neighborville. This weekly event in particular is currently not available on Nintendo Switch.

Battle Arena is a game mode and a Weekly Event in Plants vs. Zombies: Battle for Neighborville. It is an elimination game mode in which two teams of 4 players battle inside a unique map called the Funderdome with the main goal of vanquishing all players on the opposing team to win the round. There are up to 7 rounds total but a team only needs to win 4 rounds to win the game.

At the start of each round, players will select the character that they want to play, while also being able to see the characters that their teammates pick, allowing them to plan and compose different strategies. Furthermore, before each round begins, both team compositions will be shown to each other, allowing players to plan their method of approach. The main goal of each round is to eliminate every player on the enemy team. Rounds also have a time limit, and when the time is up, a capture point will appear in the center of the Funderdome. The team that captures this point will win the round instead, essentially forcing combat in order to claim the point. After the player or one of their teammates is vanquished, the rest of their team has a short time to try and revive that player in order to get them back into the match. If not, they are out and have to spectate for the rest of the round.

After every round is complete, players return to the character select screen, however the character that the player used in the previous round will be 'locked out', preventing them from playing that character for the rest of the match. Because of this, the player must choose their characters wisely, due to both the 'locking out' feature and their own team composition. It is a good idea to pick characters you aren't as comfortable with first, so you can save the characters you are comfortable with for later.

Description

Test your skills in several rounds of a 4v4 PvP elimination battle. Characters lock out each round, so pick carefully.

Weekly challenges

The weekly challenges for this event are as follows:

  • Get Vanquishes in a Match (3x)
  • Deal Damage (7,000)
  • Win Matches (3x)

Strategies

As mentioned earlier, the player must choose their characters wisely, because of the 'locking out' feature. You should pick characters you aren't as comfortable with first, so you can save the characters you are comfortable with for later.

Battle Arena Etiquette

Here are some things that are considered rude in Battle Arena:

  • If your teammates all pick the same character, have it influence your character choice. It means they are trying to have a certain team composition.
  • Don't leave in the middle of a match. You're essentially abandoning your team, and now they have one less player, so they're more likely to lose. In any other game mode this is fine, but in Battle Arena, due to the low number of players on each team, it can be the difference between a win and a loss.
  • Please don't stay in one spot and do nothing. This is even worse than leaving a match because when you leave, at least there's a chance that another player will join and fill in the empty spot. If you do nothing you are just taking up space and spoiling others' fun. If you aren't interested in fighting then stay in Giddy Park.
  • Revive your allies! This is one of the most effective ways to win. If a teammate dies, finish up any current fights and get over to them. Not reviving an ally if you can is very rude, especially if they're right next to you.
  • Hiding is okay up until a certain point. If you are the only player left on your team, don't just hide. if you are not the only one left, then hiding is okay if you're preparing to flank, or are preparing your Z-Mech. The only way to win is to vanquish your opponents or capture the point, so do that! Pick them off one by one if you can
  • Sunflowers and Scientists should prioritize healing their allies. They are PvZ BfN Support Class Icon.pngSupport classes, after all. Healing keeps your allies alive and in the fight, making them last longer. Use that to your advantage.
  • Citrons and All-Stars should defend their allies with Peel Shield and Dummy Shield. They are PvZ BfN Defend Class Icon.png Defend classes, after all. So defend with them!

Trivia

  • This game mode is incredibly similar to both the Soil Survivors game mode in Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2 and the 'Search and Rescue' game mode seen in the Call of Duty series.
  • This is the only game mode in Battle for Neighborville that can only be played on one map, and has had the map roster swapped for another.
    • There are actually three maps if you count that the second map alternates between having water, hot cheese, and bouncy ooze as obstacles.
    • You can choose to play on both maps in Private Play, although you can't choose which variation of the second map to play.
  • As of the September 2020 patch, Battle Arena is now a Weekly Event, and it abruptly replaced the Suburbination Isolation game mode that was made available a few hours before on September 29.
    • It can still be played freely in Private Play.
  • It is not possible to invite friends into this game mode as the game will refuse to let the invited player into the lobby with an error message.
  • The game will never allow the player to join matches that have already started, regardless of player count, so they are forced to join waiting lobbies.
