Equipment was a collection of items used to upgrade the stats of plants in Plants vs. Zombies: All Stars. It could be obtained by completing levels, playing the Garden War challenge, or purchasing in the shop. There were 3 slots for each plant - for weapon, armor and cloak - which increased plant's attack, defense or health respectively, while some equipment also increased some other stats.

Equipment used to be unlocked with puzzle pieces and could be upgraded with money. Equipment was in five rarities: green, blue, magenta, orange and red; with increasing costs per upgrades, number of puzzle pieces required to be unlocked and stats provided to the plant. Some equipment came in sets, which provided extra bonuses to the plant if 2 or 3 items of the same set were equipped (if 3 items were equipped, both bonuses were applied).

Unlocking and selling

One way of unlocking equipment was by collecting enough puzzle pieces of the same piece of equipment, while the other one was to transform one puzzle piece into its resective equipment for high cost.

Equipment and its puzzle pieces could also be sold for return in coins.

Upgrade costs

Equipment upgrading cost increases every 5 levels, with maximum level being 100 (although game shows prices for how much will it cost to upgrade past level 100). While formulas for individual rarities are unknown, it's worth noting that difference between upgrading equipment of different rarities follows a simple pattern.
