Strategies

Zombies

Zombies are on the offensive in this map. The presence of large and sparse areas allows for Captain Deadbeard and Foot Soldiers to excel and snipe the Plants from a long distance. Engineers are essential for setting up Teleporters, usually skipping large areas of exposed sniping areas and creating constant pressure on the control points. Super Brainz can jump over some of the large hazardous pits.

Icy Hill - Zombies spawn in a very exposed ice area, so they must make use of the occasional shelter to avoid Cacti attacks and Peashooters. Be careful when crossing cracked patches of ice as they will collapse into pits if they are traversed too much. Secure a teleporter entrance, and try and ambush the Plants from behind to clear out sniping Cacti and Gatling Peas before swarming onto the point. Be careful of any Potato Mines and Spikeweeds around the point.

Town Center - Zombies have a very large height advantage over the Plants which is excellent for Captain Deadbeard and Foot Soldiers. Super Brainz can jump over the snow mounds to launch a sneak attack, while Football Zombies and Engineers should clear out the entrances to the point behind the house. Use the snow cliffs to retreat if a Chomper is burrowing towards you.

Hockey Rink - Hockey Rink gives the Zombies a good height advantage over the Plants, giving more sniping positions. Raining ZPGs and Imp Punts towards the point can be helpful in clearing Plants on the point. You might consider the snow tunnels on the right side to backtrack behind the Plants and clear out sniping Cacti.

Secret Cabin - The Plants initially have the high ground, so be careful about Peashooters and Cacti sniping onto the Zombies climbing up the large snow cliff. Use the trees and the wood log tunnels as cover, or pass through the frozen river creek on either side to force pressure onto the Plants. Make sure to clear any Spikeweeds and Potato Mines around the area.

Windy Pass - Windy Pass is a notoriously difficult point to secure for the Zombies given the large exposed cliffs and long travel distance, along with high sniping areas for Plants. Securing a teleporter entrance is crucial for victory. You can alternatively have a teleporter set up to keep the plants busy and attack from another direction. Be careful using Sprint Tackle in this area, as you might fall into one of the many pits. Super Brainz can jump over the large pits and reach any plants defending the point.

Yeti King Cavern - Mirror C is the closest to the Zombies, so try and switch the mirror there first. Mirror B is located in an enclosed area, so a group of Zombies can choose to go to this area and use close-range attacks (like Imp Punt) to clear out any Plants defending the mirror. Mirror A provides adequate shelter to the Zombies and the staircase allows them to rain attacks on Plants. Generally, having two mirrors on the Yeti King will be sufficient to win. You might also consider the Y-shaped staircase in the middle of the arena to attack the Plants from behind.

Plants

The Plants are on the defensive in this map. Each point widely varies in height advantage, so different strategies are needed to defend each point. Sniping classes like Cacti and Sunflowers excel in this map due to large expansive areas. Citron and Kernel Corns should guard the point, using Peel Shield and Butter Barrage to clear any Zombies on the point.

Icy Hill - Cacti, Sunflowers, and Peashooters excel against the Zombies here. The large ice field provides a lack of cover for the Zombies, and they may accidentally break parts of the ice, making their movement more predictable. If they secure the ice field, you have a slight height advantage, so set up defensive positions behind the point. Be careful of Zombies trying to backtrack you from the left and right corridors. Chompers are great for getting a surprise attack on Zombies preoccupied on the point.

End game

At the end of the game, the zombies have approximately five minutes to redirect beams of light towards the frozen Yeti King with mirrors, while the plants must try to stop them by aiming the mirrors away from the Yeti King. There are three mirrors in total, and the more mirrors there are facing the Yeti King, the quicker the Yeti King will defrost.

Endings

Yeti King being freed when the zombies are in victory

Zombie victory

If the zombies manage to melt the ice, the Yeti King will be freed and will start dancing to celebrate his freedom.

Plant victory

If the plants manage to stop the zombies from melting the ice, the Yeti King will stay frozen as an icy tear streams down his cheek.

Golden Gnome locations

  1. This one is located in the Town Center area of the map. To the right of the area where there is a path to the teleporter is a snowman. Break the snowman by shooting it to reveal the Golden Gnome.
  2. This one is located in the Hockey Rink area of the map. To the left of the capture point (right for the zombies) is a small cavern tunnel with a wall of ice on its left/right wall. Break the ice to reveal a secret room with the Golden Gnome inside.
  3. This one is located in the Secret Cabin area of the map. Under the bridge leading to the garden are two ice walls. Break the right ice wall to reveal the Golden Gnome.
  4. This one is also located in the Secret Cabin area of the map. To the right of the bridge is a large lake. Jump on the iceberg and look for a button with mushrooms on it. Shoot it to trigger it. Once triggered, the Golden Gnome will emerge in a duck float.
  5. This one is located in the Windy Pass area of the map. To the left of the map is a large drop from the cliff. Keep looking down off the cliff until you find a lower cliff face with an icy door on the wall. Enter the door to find a secret room with the Golden Gnome inside.
  6. This one is also located in the Windy Pass area of the map. Look for the large pit to the right of the map. There is a button on the other side of the pit. Shoot it to trigger it. A Golden Gnome will be revealed on the top of the rock to the left of it.

Trivia

  • At the Icy Hill part of the map, orcas occasionally leap out of the water.
  • Also found in this area are large ice blocks with frozen zombies in them. On closer inspection, these zombies are actually Arctic Troopers.
    • There is also a Hockey Star which can be seen among the frozen Arctic Troopers.
  • At Windy Pass, an occasional blizzard will appear and will obscure the player's view, making them only able to see things close to them, similar to the occasional sandstorms in Sandy Sands.
    • The blizzard also shows another example of the new dynamic weather PopCap mentioned.
  • Some Arctic Troopers can be found stuck headfirst in the snow.
  • At the Hockey Rink part of the map, a TV that shows a Peashooter and Browncoat kissing can be seen. This is possibly a reference to the Plants Vs. Zombies 2 Valenbrainz video the developers uploaded on their YouTube channel.
