Tactical Team-Up
Tactical Team-Up is a Super Mix Mode in Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2. It is a variant of Gnome Bomb where players can only play as Sunflower and her variants and Citron and his variants on the plants team or Scientist and his variants and All-Star and his variants on the zombies team.
Mechanics
This mode follows the rules of Gnome Bomb, where you can only play as Sunflower, Citron and their variants on the Plants team, or Scientist, All-Star and their variants on the Zombies team. In earlier iterations of the game, characters would explode when vanquished; this feature was later removed. Furthermore, after EA stopped supporting the game in 2020, the mode changed from Gnome Bomb to Suburbination, and now occurs in May of every year.
As with the rest of the remaining events that feature limited classes, all variants of the classes can be played even if they have not yet been unlocked, including legendary characters.
Description
Plants and zombies are spawning! Play as one half tank/healer super-team and win the day! Join the plants as a Citron or Sunflower, or join the zombies as an All-Star or Scientist. Fight, heal, win.
Strategies
This mode is very one-sided in favour of the zombies; Scientists generally have an advantage over Sunflowers as they can use Warp to close the distance between them, and All-Stars are equipped with Imp Punt and Sprint Tackle for easy kills. Citrons have more of a chance, and Iron in particular has the benefit of vanquishing Scientists with two shots, but their lack of crowd control leaves them vulnerable if forced into group battles, which is very prevalent in Suburbination. Due to their mobility, Citrons have the best shot at playing the objective.
Sunflowers do have the range advantage over the zombies, and because of this, Lunar Landing is a good map to give the plants a chance to win. Grouping up is highly beneficial, although some zombies such as Chemist can pick off groups with relative ease. Power Flower is a surprisingly good pick in this mode as her chain lightning helps to whittle down groups, and she can easily hit All-Stars due to their large hitbox.
Trivia
- This is the only Mystery Portal event in which the game mode was completely changed.
- As a result of this, Gnome Bomb is the only Multiplayer Portal event that is not represented in any of the remaning Mystery Portal events.
