Plants vs. Zombies: Battle for Neighborville/Concepts
These are the concepts for Plants vs. Zombies: Battle for Neighborville. These are not fake, but rather scrapped ideas, or early images taken during development.
Many of the upcoming contents for the game were scrapped, due to the fact that the game was discontinued in late September 2020, with the final update arriving around that time period.[1]
Characters
Berry Brigade
As of the January 2020 patch, some assets related to the Berry Brigade such as the weapon data and model were added to the game files, but were removed in the March 2020 patch.

Iceberg Lettuce
Since the November 2019 patch, there has been a character select icon in the game data that simply says "L." However, this has been revealed to be the placeholder icon for the Ice Plant as of the January 2020 patch, as the filename has been renamed to that.
As of the May 2020 patch, or CU5 (Content Update 5), character models, weapon data, upgrade data, and ability data for this plant exist in the game files. However, it has been confirmed that this plant has been scrapped due to the game's end of support.

Super Bean
In the July 2020 patch, The files for Super Bean were added to the playable characters folder, complete with a primary weapon, 3 abilities (Cape Twirl, Team Shield, and Warp), and one passive ability, to jump long distances when the jump button is held down. Of course, Super Bean already appears in the game as a boss along with its cape twirl and warp abilities. The Team Shield ability seems to be specific to the playable version of the character, as it can give nearby plant characters force fields to protect them from a certain amount of damage.

Others
There are also references to other playable characters in the game, such as Cabbage, Squash, Mini Gargantuar, Toxic Zombie, and Browncoat. However, not much is known other than their internal names, and for some their weapon data.
Toxic Zombie would supposedly have had a chargeable sniper rifle called the "Needle Rifle" and a "Sticky Grenade" attack.
Mini Gargantuar had a primary attack that would have involved him aiming his weapon forwards, which would have likely been similar to Gargantuar's power pole attack, and a secondary attack that would have aimed his weapon downwards, which would likely have been something similar to Gargantuar's slam attack.
Browncoat, also known as "Eric", had 8 possible primaries in the game's code, one of which allowed him to throw vinyl records that roll along the ground when unzoomed and throw records like frisbees when zoomed in, similarly to Peashooter's scrapped legendary upgrade.
Cabbage had an alternate name in the game's code, "Catapult". This may have meant that it would have been similar to the Cabbage-pult.
Gnome Tag character
An unreleased playable Shooty Gnome that has a complete model, fully functional weapon, and abilities. It has 340 health and three abilities: Warp, Hammer Slam, and Grenade. While sprinting, the Gnome Cave theme song from Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2 is played in a similar fashion to 80s Action Hero's music.
- The primary weapon has a rate of fire of 420 RPM and deals 9.5 damage, with an occasional damage increase to 10.
- The Warp ability allows it to warp 45 meters (147.64 feet) away from the current position, three times farther than Scientist's Warp, and has a recharge time of 6 seconds.
- The Hammer Slam ability currently deals no damage and has a recharge time of 15 seconds.
- The Grenade ability deals 175 direct damage and has a recharge time of 16 seconds.

Bosses
Super Mexi-Bean
A scrapped boss from Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2 who was planned to debut in Battle for Neighborville under the new name of "Mexi-Bean" instead of "Super Chili Bean" and was meant to be a new boss.
Captain Smasher
A boss from a Boss Hunt quest in Garden Warfare was planned to return to Battle for Neighborville, likely as a boss for Garden Ops.
Fiddles the Crab
A scrapped boss from Garden Warfare 2 that was supposed to be released in Battle for Neighborville but it is unknown for which game mode or content this boss would have been part of.
Sasquatch
A boss from Boss Hunt in Garden Warfare was planned to return to Battle for Neighborville, likely as a boss for Garden Ops.
Chompzilla
A plant hero from Plants vs. Zombies Heroes who was planned to be released in Battle for Neighborville as a boss, but due to the game's end of support was scrapped.
The Yeti King
A boss from Boss Hunt in Garden Warfare was planned to return to Battle for Neighborville, likely as a boss for Garden Ops.
As of the May 2020 patch, there are some weapon data for a new version of Navel Laser and Turbo Twister.
The new version of Navel Laser would have allowed the player to fire the weapon manually but the weapon would have had 30 rounds. The upgrade is unfinished as the cooldown will still be triggered after 6 seconds due to it reusing the same weapon data as the current Navel Laser. It also has 7 charge stages, possibly intended to allow the player to fire the weapon before the weapon is fully charged, at the cost of having less ammo to fire.
The new version of Turbo Twister would have had a longer cooldown and caused Super Brainz to move in a circular pattern while using the ability, but dealt more damage and lasts longer.

Abilities
Hey You
An unused icon for an ability called "Hey You" is located within the game's files. Its icon suggests it was meant for the Acorn. It likely was meant to attract other Acorns to its location, as it's internally called "AcornCallingAcorn".
A colorless version of this icon was put in an activity sheet [2] released for Feastivus 2019.
Astronaut Dock
An unused icon for an ability called "Astronaut Dock" is located within the game's files. Its icon suggests that, similar to Acorn's "Hey You", it was an ability for Space Cadets to find each other. Its internal name, like Acorn's "Hey You" ability, is "AstronautCallingAstronaut"
Cannon Rodeo
An unused icon resembling Cannon Rodeo from Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2 was present in older versions of the game. However, this was removed in the January 2020 patch. The same icon was found in an activity sheet released for Feastivus 2019, albeit with its colors changed. It is unknown if this ability was Cannon Rodeo, but if it was the ability was most likely scrapped in favor for Anchor's Away to better fit Captain Deadbeard's more defensive style.
Feastivus Activity Sheet Beta Icons
For Feastivus 2019, multiple activity sheets were released. On three of these sheets are multiple icons for abilities that seem to be from an earlier build. It is unknown why these icons were used instead of the current ones. Noticeable parts of these sheets include -
- Unused Hey You! and Cannon Rodeo ability icons.
- A Kernel Corn icon left completely unused. Its position makes it likely this was meant for Shuck Shot.
- Hyper Jump Thump facing a different direction than the finished icon.
- Rocket Ride's color is blue rather than purple.
- Sprint Tackle's color is blue rather than pink.
- Fung Fu's coloring is slightly darker than its finished icon.
- A different activity sheet shows a Fung-Fu icon with one less surrounding shadow.

Cut mechanics
There are some cut gameplay mechanisms that were found in the game data.
Confidence
A cut mechanic for the Acorn. Little is known about what it does, but it is referenced in two unused upgrades: Bravado and Determination.

Damage falloff
Damage falloff is a feature that existed in both Garden Warfare and Garden Warfare 2 as a means of reducing weapon's effectiveness at longer range for balancing purposes, but is almost wholly absent in Battle for Neighborville for unknown reasons, save for the Sunbeam and Scientist's primary weapon, although the latter has an inverse falloff instead, where the damage is higher at longer range.
Two of the unused upgrades present in the game data—Carbine Rounds and Increased Bullet Range—suggest that damage falloff was meant to be added into the game, but was cut during the development, as these upgrades increase the damage falloff start and end distances.
Unused upgrades
There are unused upgrades in the game data that have existed since the Founders Edition. Some of the upgrades still have their name present in the localized string data, but most of them are missing. Some upgrades also have parts of their data missing. All classes except the Wizard have at least one unused upgrade.

New legendary upgrades as of the May 2020 patch
80s Action Hero
The December 2019 patch added a new upgrade named "Bombing Run" for the 80s Action Hero. The description is "Gain flight and homing on fired rockets. Fire additional rockets by earning a vanquish with Rocket Ride." It costs 7 points. The Bombing Run upgrade briefly appeared in the game's upgrade selection screen in January, which was fixed in the January 2020 patch.

Oak
There are three legendary upgrades for the Oak added in the May 2020 patch, possibly for testing purposes. They are:
- A straight-firing rocket gun that fires in 6-round bursts.
- A rocket gun that fires in a sweeping pattern in 10-round bursts.
- A shotgun that fires multiple rockets and reloads in a similar fashion as tube shotguns.

Hats
Other
The below cosmetics suggest that individual cosmetics of not just hats were considered.
Universal Hats
Starting from the Summer Nights festival, universal hat thumbnails (icons of universal hats without a character wearing it) are no longer added for unknown reasons.
Crown of Indifference
A universal hat that looks similar to the Everlasting Crown from Garden Warfare 2. It's possible that it could've been used as a reward for completing all of character challenges or a hidden challenge.
Crowning Achievement
A purple and silver variation of the unused Crown of Indifference universal hat.
Cool Penguin
An unused universal hat. This might have been a reward for completing all of the character challenges in a certain month, but was scrapped in favor of a different hat.
Hula Doll
Another unused universal hat.
Unfinished Costumes
In May 2020 patch descriptions and concept arts for upcoming costumes were added into the game. They appeared to be used by the designers as a reference for modeling customizations. Some costumes received customization icons in July 2020 patch. None of following costumes were finished and therefore are left unused.
Color Me Impressed
This costume is internally called "Default Painter".
Engineer Engineer
This costume is internally called "Nerd". Its description: "He can program your computer to catch on fire and get hit 87 times with his hammer."
Robin No-Good
This costume is internally called "Robin Hood". Its description: "He steals from the rich and gives a piece of his mind to the poor."
Zomb Queen
This costume is internally called "Zom Queen". Its description: "When she won Zomb Queen, she knew she’d accomplished her mission in life—sticking it to Stephanie." Despite having customisation icons, none of costume pieces were made.
Medic Medusa
This costume is internally called "Medusa". Its description: "Don’t look her in the eyes! Unless, you know, you want to have a normal social interaction." Despite having customisation icons, none of costume pieces were made.
Gestures
Breaking Hearts
There were supposed to be an item-collecting activity called "Breaking Hearts" during Valenbrainz, similarly to pie-collecting event during Fall Food Fight. It would've had a new NPC called "Valli Gnome". Player were supposed to collect hearts for an unknown reward.
Unused Sir Biff Music
Music for Sir Biff exists in the files, being labelled as "temporary" but not having been removed. Unlike the final result, this version is complete (with the intro and outro being part of the track) and not in pieces.
Ops Phase 3
Ops Phase 3 would have been a massive update. It was going to be an expansion for both Garden Ops and Graveyard Ops, featuring possible upgrades to both the base and its defences.
Upgrades were bought using Blue Stars, which were obtained by vanquishing enemies and opening chests.
Base Defences
