Cabbage-Pult in Plants vs. Zombies 3

Cabbage-pult is a recurring character within the Plants vs. Zombies franchise. Cabbage-pult lobs cabbages that deal twice the damage of a Peashooter, but fires at half the speed, which can avoid obstacles and shields.

Cabbage-pult serves as the posterchild for the lobber plants, always being the first one the player obtains in every game he's a part of, typically a part of a game's tutorial in some way, the only exception being his first appearance where he appears in the last area of the game's campaign.

Cabbage-pult is also mentioned to be the youngest of three siblings, with his older brothers revealed to be Kernel-pult and Melon-pult. Almanac entries reveal that Cabbage-pult has some degree of passion for catapulting, having studied it in Harvest University and showing high knowledge in the customs of lobbing plants specifically.

As of Plants vs. Zombies 3, Cabbage-pult has appeared in four international games, with various appearances in Chinese spinoff games.

Origins

Healthy-looking-cabbage.jpg

Cabbage-pult is based on the real life cabbage, a popular cultivar of the species Brassica oleracea.

His name is a portmanteau of "cabbage" and "catapult", a ballistic device used to hurl large stones for warfare purpose in ancient times, referring to the fact that he hurls cabbages at zombies.

History

Cabbage-pult1.png

In the original Plants vs. Zombies game, as well as Chinese spin-off games based on it, Cabbage-pult is the first lobber plant obtained, being unlocked after beating Level 4-10.

He attacks zombies by launching cabbages at them, these cabbages deal twice as much damage as a Peashooter's pea, but are are lobbed at half the rate. Cabbages lobbed by Cabbage-pult aren't affected by the slopped angle of the Roof area which typically blocks straight-fired projectiles; they are also capable of bypassing shields and damaging submerged Snorkel Zombies.

Plants vs. Zombies 2

Cabbage-pult returns in the sequel, Plants vs. Zombies 2, unlocked after beating Player's House - Day 4. He acts the same as the first game, but now due to the change in tombstone mechanics, his first and main purpose is to fire cabbages over them. Despite his main gimmick of avoiding shields, there are multiple zombies whose shields can't be bypassed by Cabbage-pult's cabbages.

Prior to the 7.1.1 update, he was instead unlocked after beating Ancient Egypt - Day 2. This was possibly changed to teach the player about tombstones earlier, as Player's House - Day 5 has two Peashooters and a Cabbage-pult behind some tombstones. The Chinese version of the game still has Cabbage-pult as an Ancient Egypt plant, having him unlocked after beating Ancient Egypt - Day 1.

Plants vs. Zombies Heroes

Three of him are given to the player before the last part of the tutorial, along with Cattail and Flourish to teach the player about Heights and Amphibious lanes. The game tutorial has the player use him on Heights on turn 2.

Plants vs. Zombies 3

Cabbage-Pult appears in Plants vs. Zombies 3, once again lobbing cabbages as a Common Lobber plant. He is given for free after the player's first encounter with Balloon Zombie, which the player is forced to lose. Like the other mainline games, he deals twice the damage of Peashooter, but also taking twice the amount of time to fire.

His Plant Food ability is Cabbage Patch, which is similar to his Plant Food in Plants vs. Zombies 2 but only fires five at a time. His Tacobility is Cold Slaw, which is similar to a Cabbage version of Winter Melon, firing icy cabbages which can slow and sometimes even freeze zombies in place.

Plants vs. Zombies Mini Programs

In Plants vs. Zombies 2: League, Cabbage-pult is a level 5 Turret class plant, having 228 points of health, 22 for attack and 200 for range. He has 4 upgrade variations, namely Mr. Cabbage, Guy Cabbage, Lady Cabbage and Queen Cabbage.
