Origins

180px-Antirrhinum majus 6.jpg

Snapdragon is based on the dragon flower, or snapdragon, a flowering plant in the genus Antirrhinum that is native to the rocky areas of Europe, North America and North Africa.

The name is also a pun, as Snapdragon's head is similar to that of a fictional fire breathing dragon of European folklore.

History

Plants vs. Zombies 2

Snapdragon first appears in Plants vs. Zombies 2, unlocked after beating Day 3 of Pirate Seas. He costs 150 sun and attacks by unleashing flames in a 3x2 area of ahead of him while his Plant Food ability has him fly upwards and release a powerful burst of fireballs, dealing heavy damage in a 3x3 area ahead of him. He is immune to frost and can warm nearby plants.

He is in the Pepper-mint family, who boosts his damage to 180 damage and his Plant Food's damage to 4,400 damage. He also has an achievement related to him, Dragon Age, which simply requires 10 Snapdragons to be planted in a single level.

Cold Snapdragon2.png

A similar plant, Cold Snapdragon is a premium plant. He is like Snapdragon, costing the same amount of sun (100 more in the Chinese version) with the same range, but also has a chilling effect in his attacks. Unlike Snapdragon, due to his ice effects, he is in the Winter-mint family, and while he is also immune to frost, he is not able to warm nearby plants.

Snapdragon was brought into Plants vs. Zombies: Journey to the West, a Chinese-only version of Plants vs. Zombies as a premium plant. Snapdragon was drastically different in this game, with a new design, costing 200 sun, having a slow recharge and only attacking 3 tiles ahead of him. However, he had the rare chance of releasing a powerful burst of fire in a 3x3 area ahead of him, like his Plant Food ability in Plants vs. Zombies 2.

Snap Dragon makes a return in the Garden Warfare series as a Potted Plant. Like the main games, he fires a burst of flames ahead of him, burning any zombie hit by the flames using his Flame Breath.

Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare gives him a variant, the Cat Dragon. This variant is purely cosmetic and doesn't change anything about how they work, but does have a unique description.

Plants vs. Zombies: All Stars (China only) (Archived content)

Snapdragon next appeared in the Chinese-exclusive turn-based game Plants vs. Zombies: All Stars as the second plant in the Dragon line, evolving from Lizard Grass and evolving into Twin-Headed Snapdragon. He specialized in damaging column-wide groups of enemies with fireballs.

His active ability was Firestorm which had him rush to the closest enemy to deal damage in a 1x3 area, dealing 20% more damage if the enemy has been buttered while his passive ability was Powdermouth, which let Firestorm set enemies on fire for three turns, which dealt 74 damage to the burnt enemy every turn.

His soulmates were members of the Boomerang line for a health boost, members of the Electric Grass line for a strength boost, and members of the Coffee line and Hazelnut line together for a higher critical hit chance.

Snapdragon next appears in Plants vs. Zombies: Battle for Neighborville, promoted for a potted plant to a playable character, the only potted plant to receive this honor. He is an PvZ BfN Attack Class Icon.png Attack class who specializes in close range fire damage, but can zoom in to fire a fireball ahead of him, giving him slight range. Along with this, he can also slightly hover in the air by holding the jump button, similar to Rose.

His abilities are Swoop Slam, which has him fly up before divebombing ahead of him, the only attack Snapdragon has that doesn't have fire damage naturally, Blue Blazes, which fires a fireball that homes in on the nearest zombie, and Blazing Trail, which unleashes a blazing wall of fire ahead of him.

Snapdragon's latest appearance is in Plants vs. Zombies 3. She is an Epic Scrapper plant, costing 7 sun and once again attacking in a 3x2 area ahead of her, damaging up to 6 zombies (at level 1) in each row.

Her Plant Food ability is Dragonfire, which spits out a damaging fireball in a 3x3 area ahead of her like her Plants vs. Zombies 2 Plant Food and her Tacobility is Dragonflight, which grants her wings, letting her attack farther and hurt flying zombies.
