Split Pea is a recurring character within the Plants vs. Zombies franchise. Split Pea is a peashooting plant that works nearly identically to Peashooter, but can fire two peas behind them like a Repeater, being able to defend the lawn from zombies behind them.

Interestingly enough, while Plants vs. Zombies' entry for Split Pea states this second head is simply a "large head-like growth" and thus not a real head, Plants vs. Zombies 2's entry for Split Pea states this second head is a living being who constantly is arguing with the front head for their Repeater eyebrows and that the two were born two minutes apart. Plants vs. Zombies Heroes doesn't help answer this question, as it is a quote from Split Pea about being on two minds rather than this topic.

As of Plants vs. Zombies 3, Split Pea has appeared in three games.

Origins

Yellow split peas

Its name is a reference to the actual split pea, the dried, peeled, and split seeds of the pea (Pisum sativum) from north India. The split in its name refers to the fact that it is split, with two heads, and the pea in its name refers to the fact that it is a peashooting plant.

In the original Plants vs. Zombies game, as well as Chinese spin-off games based on it, Split Pea serves as a Peashooter/Repeater hybrid, shooting a single pea in front of them and two in the back. Split Pea is unlocked after beating Level 4-5, the level right before Digger Zombie appears, the main zombie they are meant to counter, as the Digger Zombie digs to the opposite end of the lawn and attacks from behind.

A similar plant, Reverse Repeater appears in the Vasebreaker levels and serves the same purpose as Split Pea, shooting two peas to the left, but unlike Split Pea, can't attack ahead of them, as they are facing in the left direction.

Plants vs. Zombies 2

In Plants vs. Zombies 2, reappears as the first plant obtained in the Wild West. Like the first game, they fire one pea ahead of them and two peas behind, meant to counter Prospector Zombie and Imps fired by Zombie Bulls. Due to the amount of zombies which can sneak attack the player or fly over Split Pea without causing them any harm, Split Pea's usage increases drastically compared to the first game, being useful in Pirate Seas, Wild West, Frostbite Caves, and Lost City due to either the world's own gimmick or the amount of zombies which will usually end up behind Split Pea.

Their Plant Food follows the theme of Split Pea being a Peashooter in the front and a Repeater in the back, firing 60 peas forward and 90 peas plus one big pea backwards when one is used on them, which are the effects of a Peashooter and Repeater's Plant Food each.

Unlike Plants vs. Zombies, Split Pea appears rather than a reversed Repeater in Vasebreaker, serving the reversed Repeater's purpose.

Split Pea's latest appearance in the turn-based mobile card game Plants vs. Zombies Heroes as a Colossal Super-Rare of the PvZH Mega-Grow Icon.pngMega-Grow class. They cost 2SunPvZH.png, have 4StrengthPvZH.png/1HeartPvZH.png and are of the Pea tribe. Their ability is a setback, dealing 1 damage to the Plant Hero before combat. This can help with charging the block meter without dealing too much damage to the Plant Hero themselves, but still makes Split Pea a risky card to play.

Strangely enough, Split Pea attacks the zombies using its Peashooter head while attacking the Plant Hero using the Repeater head, when logically the Repeater head should be doing more damage than the Peashooter head.
