- For other uses, see Screen Door Zombie (disambiguation).
Screen Door Zombie is a recurring character within the Plants vs. Zombies franchise. Using a screen door, Screen Door Zombies are able to block straight shot projectiles such as peas and be immune to any effects they would have, such as Snow Pea's chill. However, a Screen Door Zombie can be defeated quite easily by simply hitting anywhere else in which they are like normal Browncoat Zombies.
As of Plants vs. Zombies Heroes, Screen Door Zombie has appeared in five games.
History
Plants vs. Zombies
- Main article: Screen Door Zombie (PvZ)
In the original Plants vs. Zombies game, as well as all Chinese spin-off games based on it, Screen Door Zombie is the second zombie encountered in the Night levels, first appearing in Level 2-3. Similar to Newspaper Zombie before him, he uses a shield to block projectiles, though he trades away the special ability Newspaper Zombie has for the shield having much more health 1,100 rather than just 150 and becomes just a Zombie when the shield is destroyed.
However, Screen Door Zombie's weaknesses are more pronounced, as Fume-shroom is unlocked the level before, being able to treat Screen Door Zombie-like a basic Zombie, and throughout the game, more plants that can ignore the screen door are obtained, such as Spikeweed (who attacks the feet rather than the shield), Magnet-shroom (who can remove the screen door), and the Lobber plants (who can aim for his head rather than the screen door). If he is hypnotized by Hypno-shroom, his screen door will be useless against other zombies.
He costs the same in both I, Zombie, and Versus Mode, costing either 100 sun or brains depending on the mode.
In certain versions of the game, a zombie that acts very similar to him, Trash Can Zombie appears in certain game modes, being certain Survival Mode levels, Co-op Hard levels, and Versus Mode. This zombie costs 50 brains rather than Screen Door Zombie's 100 but can only absorb 1,000 damage (800 for the trash can) and moves very slowly, though this is only the case in Versus Mode.
In Plants vs. Zombies: Great Wall Edition, he was renamed and appeared as the Door Zombie.
Garden Warfare series and Plants vs. Zombies: Battle for Neighborville
- Main article: Screen Door Zombie (Spawnable)
Screen Door Zombie appears in all the shooter games as a Spawnable Zombie, with Plants vs. Zombies: Battle for Neighborville being his latest appearance in both the shooter games and the series. Like Plants vs. Zombies, Screen Door Zombie uses a screen door to protect himself in the front but is vulnerable on the back and head. When his door is destroyed, he becomes a Browncoat Zombie, but always shares the same attacks of Zombie Hurt and Hard Rock Toss.
Starting with Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2, Screen Door Zombie also starts off with a cone as well, letting him absorb more damage himself. Despite this, his counterpart in Garden Warfare 2 had the plant counterpart of a bucket instead, though this was fixed in a strange way, as the Wood Shield Weed simply didn't return in Battle for Neighborville, leading the "correct" counterpart Leaf Shield Weed to be the counterpart instead.
Plants vs. Zombies Heroes
- Main article: Screen Door Zombie (PvZH)
Screen Door Zombie reappears in Plants vs. Zombies Heroes as an Uncommon Galactic zombie in the Hearty class. He is in the Professional tribe, costs 5 , and has 4/4.
His ability is quite different from the rest of the series, coming out of a Gravestone and can't be hurt the turn he is revealed. However, once the turn is over, he can be damaged.
