Venus Flytrap is a recurring character within the Plants vs. Zombies franchise. Venus Flytraps use their jaws to attack zombies in their way.

Throughout the series, Venus Flytrap's usage has differed, but all of them use their traps on zombies for a variety of effects, which include holding them in place, damaging them, or healing.

As of Plants vs. Zombies 3, Venus Flytrap has appeared in three games.

Origins

Venus Flytrap.png

Venus Flytrap is based on the real-life Venus flytrap (Dionaea muscipula), a carnivorous plant native to subtropical wetlands on the East Coast of the United States in North Carolina and South Carolina.

Venus Flytrap's later ability of healing herself through damaging zombies may be inspired by how real life Venus flytraps eat small creatures to absorb nutrients.

The first alliteration of Venus Flytrap appeared in Plants vs. Zombies Online, a Chinese computer version of Plants vs. Zombies 2. This version was unlocked after beating Qin Shi Huang Mausoleum - Level 5-1 and used strong jaws to stall a zombie, but couldn't stall more that one at a time.

However, Greenhouse upgrades let this ability deal slight damage and Plant Food allowed Venus Flytrap to swallow zombies in range.

Venus Flytrap used to have a red mouth rather than a blue mouth, but this was changed in an unknown update. However, when Venus Flytrap made an appearance in the Plants vs. Zombies: Boom Boom Mushroom comic, her mouth was red.

The next version of Venus Flytrap first appeared in the Chinese-exclusive turn-based game Plants vs. Zombies: All Stars, being the second plant in the Flytrap line, evolving from Slap Grass and evolving into Chainsaw Flytrap. She attacked by biting zombies with her jaws and her line specialized in sustaining themselves.

Her active ability was Vampire Attack, which dealt damage to the closest enemy in her lane and restored 50% of the damage done while her passive ability was Cold Biting, which let Vampire Attack deal more damage to frozen enemies.

Her soulmates were members of the Tail line for a defense boost, members of the Hazelnut line for a boost to her rigid stat, and members of the Chrysanthemum line and Electric Grass lines together for a health boost.

Venus Flytrap is a Premium Uncommon in the PvZH Solar Icon.pngSolar class, a member of the Flytrap tribe, costs 3SunPvZH.png and has 2StrengthPvZH.png/2HeartPvZH.png.

Her ability lets her simply heal the Plant Hero for how much damage she dealt, which can be increased or decreased depending on her current strength or if the opposing zombie has PvZH Armored Icon.pngArmored. An Environment card named Venus Flytraplanet has both its design and ability based on Venus Flytrap, letting any plant fighter that deals damage on it have her healing effect.

Venus Flytrap's Plants vs. Zombies Online design also reappears through another plant named Mars Flytrap. Mars Flytrap is a Galactic Uncommon in the PvZH Smarty Icon.pngSmarty class, a member of the Flytrap tribe, costs 1SunPvZH.png and has 2StrengthPvZH.png/2HeartPvZH.png.

His ability allows him steal a section from the Super-Block Meter from the Zombie Hero and add it to the Plant Hero's meter if he was able to attack the Zombie Hero directly. This ability didn't activate if the Zombie Hero blocks the attack, but will still activate even if the Plant Hero's meter is full.
