Tall-nut is based on the edible walnut seed, specifically the Juglans regia.

His name is a cross between "Wall-nut" and "tall", referring to Tall-nut's incredible height helping the plant blocking flying enemies and the fact that he is a nut.

History

Plants vs. Zombies

In the original Plants vs. Zombies game, as well as all Chinese spin-off games based on it, Tall-nut is unlocked after beating Level 3-8, being the last Pool plant to be unlocked. He costs 125 sun and can serve as a sort of upgrade to Wall-nut, costing 75 more sun but having twice the health and is unable to be bounced over by leaping zombies.

In both Beghouled mini-games, Wall-nut can be upgraded into Tall-nut for 250 sun, the cheapest upgrade in the game and if neither him or Magnet-shroom is used to clear Pogo Party, the player will obtain the Sproing! Sproing! Achievement.

There is a Zombotany zombie based off Tall-nut that only appears in Zombotany 2, the Tall-nut Zombie. Being based off Tall-nut's high health, they absorb 2,400 damage before being defeated, making them the 4th strongest non boss zombie in terms of health in the game; being only beaten by the Gargantuar, Giga-Football Zombie, and Giga-gargantuar.

Tall-nut makes an appearance in the Chinese spin-off Plants vs. Zombies Social Edition, but along with this, there was a premium plant based off Tall-nut, Vine-nut.

Vine-nut shared all the abilities Tall-nut had but also damaged zombies who ate it, similar to Endurian in Plants vs. Zombies 2 and costed 250 sun rather than 125.

Plants vs. Zombies 2

Tall-nut next appears in Plants vs. Zombies 2, being unlocked after beating the 18th day of the Wild West. Like in the Plants vs. Zombies, he costs 125 sun, has double the health of Wall-nut and blocks off flying zombies.

Once again, during Beghouled mini-games, he can be upgraded from Wall-nut, this time costing 1,000 sun to upgrade. He is also a member of the Reinforce-mint family, temporarily gaining 32,000 health and instantly activates his Plant Food ability, which covers himself in iron armor granting another 12,000 health (or being able to withstand a single Gargantuar attack).

Garden Warfare series

Main article: Tallnut Battlement
Tallnut BattlementGW1.png

Tall-nuts make an appearance in Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare and Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2 as an ability for the Cactus, the Tallnut Battlement. When used, Cactus will place a battlement made of two Tall-nuts and two Wall-nuts attached together by vines to block off damage. This ability doesn't fully protect Cactus, only the bottom side, but allows Cactus to still be able to attack from that area.

They take 200 damage before being destroyed and take 30 seconds to recharge each. Only 4 can be placed and stored at a time. They have two alternate ability forms, Iron Maiden, which absorbs 500 damage but only one can be stored at a time, and Bling Maiden, the exact same as Iron Maiden but covered in gold armor. A statue in the Backyard Battleground, "Party Animals", appears to based off the Tallnut Battlement's design.

Plants vs. Zombies: All Stars (China only) (Archived content)

Main article: Nut line
Tall-nutAS.png

Tall-nut's latest physical appearance was in the Chinese-exclusive turn-based game Plants vs. Zombies: All Stars as the second plant in the Nut line, evolving from Wall-nut and into Holographic Tall-nut. They were melee attackers who ram themselves into the first enemy ahead of them, but served a more defensive purpose, meant to protect other plants from damage.

Their active ability was Armored Assault, which removed negative effects from themselves and creates a protective shield for the team that lasted 5 turns, while their passive ability was Meditation, which regenerated more health every turn.

Plants vs. Zombies Heroes

While not appearing as a playable plant card himself, Tall-nut does make a cameo appearance in the background of Grass Knuckles' map.

Another Tall-nut also appears as a part of the card Go-Nuts, a 3SunPvZH.png cost PvZH Smarty Icon.pngSmarty card in the Flower and Nut tribes, with 2StrengthPvZH.png/2HeartPvZH.png, the Team-Up trait and the ability to give all Team-Up plants +1StrengthPvZH.png whenever another Team-Up card is played.
