Fairytale Forest (童话森林; pinyin: Tóng​huà Sēn​lín), also referred to as Fairytale World (童话世界; pinyin: Tóng​huà Shì​jiè), is a world released for the Chinese version of Plants vs. Zombies 2. It is the 1st world released for the new Secret Realms game mode and the 17th world overall. Part One was released in the 2.8.4 update on April 25, 2022 on Android and iOS devices. Part Two was released in the 2.9.0 update on July 1, 2022 on Android devices.

The primary mechanic of this world is Magic Fog. Magic Fog is similar to the Fog found in Dark Ages. Unlike Dark Ages fog however, Magic Fog cannot be cleared by Plantern, Groundcherry, Torchwood or Blover. New plants cannot be placed on tiles covered by Magic Fog, but preexisting plants will not be affected by Magic Fog.

Magic Fog will also grant zombies Magic Shields whose strength will vary depending on what color they are. Magic Fog will come in three different colors white, blue and purple. These different colors will determine the color of the Magic Shields they grant zombies. Magic Fog can only be removed by Magic Winds, which randomly occur at random intervals during gameplay.

Magic Shields reduce the amount of damage zombies take by certain amounts. White shields reduce damage by 25%, blue shields reduce damage by 50%, and purple shields reduce damage by 75%. Zombies with magic shields are also immune to slowing debuffs, while blue and purple shields make zombies immune to stunning, hypnotizing, lane changing, and even instant-kills. Heath Seeker is able to instantly destroy Magic Shields and even prioritizes attacking zombies with them.

Starting from Part Two, a new mechanic is the Wizard's Cauldron, players can 'feed' Wizard's Cauldrons on the lawn Plant Food and a plant by selecting and dragging them onto the tile it occupies. When a Wizard's Cauldron is fed a plant and Plant Food, it will spawn a seed packet of a different plant of a higher rarity that the player can tap and plant on the lawn. When a Wizard's Cauldron is destroyed, is will release a cloud of poison that does not affect zombies.

The final new mechanic is Magic Mirrors, these Magic Mirrors function similarly to the portals in Portal Combat. Projectiles fired into one mirror will be "absorbed" by it and fired out of another linked mirror, likewise any zombie that walks through one mirror will exit through the other.

In the secret realms, hard mode can only be accessed by completing all levels in normal mode for a respective part (ex: all levels in part one of the Fairy Tale Forest must be completed to unlock the hard mode for part one). The individual levels can then be unlocked with keys given daily and each of these hard mode levels has three optional objectives. By completing these objectives, the player will earn purple stars and magic mirrors, for part one and two respectively, which are used to obtain items and puzzle pieces from the Secret Rewards shop.

Trivia

• Fairytale Forest is the second world in the game to not be based in any particular time period. With the first being Sky City.
• On certain devices, when playing version 2.9.2, a glitch may occur where once the Magic Fog enters the lawn for the second time during a level, all zombies within the fog will become hypnotized rather than gain Magic Shields.
• It is the only world other than Modern Day to use grass as its Lawn.
• During the stages in Hard mode, the stage title shows a short sentence instead Fairytale Forest-Day X.
• Before 2.9.6 version, there was a bug that can click the next wave button to skip the Magic Fog. It is fixed now.
  • However, you can still use next wave button to skip Magic Wind.
• The plants part of this world are classified as Monthly Special plants in-game, however, they are classified as part of this realm on the official website.
