Blover is a single-use plant in Plants vs. Zombies 2. He instantly destroys most airborne zombies in the entire field.

About

For more information about this character, see Blover

Blover is unlocked after beating Far Future - Day 3. Blover is now capable of propelling all airborne enemies - this includes normally grounded zombies bounced by Chard Guard, level 5+ Stallia, Kiwibeast during growth or using Plant Food, Reinforce-mint, Bramble Bush, Bun Chi, propelled by Breakdancer Zombies or dinosaurs, Electric Currant, zombies knocked back by Goo Peashooter/Parsnip/Guacodile/Bamboo Spartan/Scaredy-shroom's PF effect, Tumbleweed, Explode-o-Vine, zombies shoved by ZCorp Consultant, temporarily airborne by Primal Peashooter or flicked by Power Toss.

Under normal conditions, Blover can blow away the following enemies:

Blover will also cause these zombies to instantly fall to the ground:

In Far Future - Day 25, Far Future - Day 35, and Far Future - Ultimate Challenge, Blover can be used to stop Zombot Tomorrow-tron's charge attack. Moreover, in Zomboss fights of Penny's Pursuit, Blover can stop the charge attack of Zombots, depending on what Zombot is fought. In the Chinese Dark Ages and Steam Age, Blover can also temporarily repel fog, like in the first game, and toxic steam.

Blover, like Hurrikale and Draftodil, can combine with up to 2 Dandelion to let them release a barrage of bombs down their lanes, but will leave the Dandelion defenseless. Blover's range with Dandelion is bigger, as he affects the whole board and therefore impact those not in his lane.

Strategies

As the physics engine has been updated, Blover has been made much more flexible in that he can kill all airborne threats - a clever player can use this to subjugate entire hordes of zombies, including Gargantuars, with a single Blover. In addition, the amount of flying zombies has also been increased. Due to these reasons, Blover's significance in the player's plant arsenal has been greatly escalated.

In Far Future, Blover is introduced as a counter against Jetpack Zombie and his disco counterpart, giving breathing room for other offensive plants and temporarily nullifying Disco-tron 3000's ability. Blover is also an effective plant in Pirate Seas, as most of the threats in this world such as Seagull Zombies, Swashbuckler Zombies and Zombie Parrots are naturally airborne. In the previous updates where the world can be played in any order, it is suggested that the player unlocks Blover first in the Far Future before attempting to play Pirate Seas, as Blover will make the latter world much easier. In Frostbite Caves, Blover is useful in defeating Dodo Rider Zombie whenever it attempts to bypass a plant.

Blover can also be an effective plant in the Lost City, as he counters two zombies that can be otherwise dangerous without him; Bug Zombies, which fly past defenses and drop zombies when defeated, especially while carrying Buckethead Adventurer Zombies, and Relic Hunter Zombies which can drop down anywhere from the fourth to the sixth column and demolish offensive plants due to their high toughness. It should be remembered that Blover will also free trapped Lost Pilot Zombies, allowing them to walk earlier than usual.

A Level 5 or higher Stallia is also excellent and extremely deadly combination with Blover, since she causes knockback. Deploying Stallia immediately after Blover can neutralize a number of zombies at once. The same mechanics can be applied to an Explode-o-Vine, though to a much lesser extent as Explode-o-Vine can kill most zombies outright with his spawn damage, limiting him to durable ones like Gargantuars or mechs from Far Future.

There are several plants that Blover can team up with. Level 5+ Stallia (mentioned above), Primal Peashooter and Chard Guard are the most common three. Chard Guard can be used against a group of zombies or a Gargantuar, as he will fling them in the air, allowing Blover to quickly dispatch them. Primal Peashooter is the most potent combination, but is much slower to set up. Blover columns of primal peashooters are required to get a reliable effect, but it allows the constant killing of zombies through blover spam. Reinforce-mint can also be used to knock back all the zombies to allow them to be blown away, but the zombies must be completely on the first tile for them to be affected by the knockback. As an extension, Chard Guards can be placed in the 9th column to have their Plant Food ability activated. Delaying the Reinforce-mint followed by a quick second Blover will allow the Chard Guards to clear the board a second time after Reinforce-mint.

One thing to be careful about is with Blover's minuscule delay, as the wind effect only takes place when his leaves begin turning, during which airborne zombies might have simply landed. Because of this, precise timing and plenty of practice is advised, especially when the player is attempting to kill zombies with little airborne time, such as zombies lifted by Chard Guard or Primal Peashooter's peas, zombies kicked by Breakdancer Zombie and Imps launched by Gargantuars or Imp Cannons. A better solution is to deploy a desired plant right after Blover, ensuring the zombies are properly caught in the gale since his effect persists for a second or two. He can also cause Dandelion to lose its seeds, rendering it unable to attack for 10 seconds, though that's rarely an issue and situational at worst.

Since he is an instant-use plant, it is a very bad idea to bring this plant in the objective "Don't lose more than x plants", as mindlessly spam-planting him can easily lose the objective. However, he is helpful in the objective "Defeat x zombies in y seconds", especially if there are flying zombies.

Trivia

  • In Arena, if the Contain-mint family is Bruised, when the Blover is blowing away a flying zombie it will go back a few tiles slowly before flying to the Player's House. This is because since Blover is a Contain-mint plant and he is weakened, he cannot blow away flying zombies.
    • However, this would not happen if Blover has reached Mastery 50/100.
  • He is not obtainable in Pyramid of Doom, Icebound Battleground, Arthur's Challenge, and Tiki Torch-er, due to the lack of airborne zombies to blow (except Imps thrown by Gargantuars and those launched by some other plants)
    • In the older versions, he was obtainable in Icebound Battleground.
      • This makes him the first plant to have had their Endless Zone availability changed. The second one is Thyme Warp.
  • He is the only Far Future obtained plant that returned from the first game.
  • In his Almanac entry, Bulb Fiction is a reference to Pulp Fiction, Rooty is a parody of Rocky, and Finding Flower is a parody of Finding Nemo and its sequel Finding Dory.
  • In the earlier updates, he would instantly blow zombies away when planted. This was later changed and zombies will now only get blown off when his leaves start turning. However, this has not been changed in the Chinese version.
  • In the Chinese version, he cannot be used in Sky City levels. The same applies to E.M.Peach, Bamboo Shoot, Cryo-shroom, Sap-fling, Hurrikale, Agave, and Jackfruit. Hacking him into the game doesn't come with the expected results, as all zombies in the world reuse codes from normally grounded ones, meaning Blover wouldn't be able to harm them either.
    • The likely reason for the prohibition is that every foe is airborne, allowing him to simply eviscerate them and eliminating any challenges posed by the world. If he was allowed but didn't work, it would then be another obvious consistency paradox.
  • In boss battles against Zombot Aerostatic Gondola in Penny's Pursuit, zombies spawned by it are airborne briefly, meaning Blover can actually destroy them just as they spawn if timed well.
    • Therefore, Lost Pilot Zombies can spawn at the second column for balancing.
  • The bones (thrown by Tomb Raiser Zombie), Octopi (thrown by Octo Zombie), snowballs thrown by Hunter Zombie bottles of salad dressing (thrown by Roman Caesar Zombie), laptops thrown by ZCorp HelpDesk, zombies that are held by Pterodactyls, any zombosses (while jumping or flying) and the missiles (fired by it and Z-Mech) are the only airborne objects that can't be blown away by Blover.
  • Using Blover while Lost Pilot Zombies are hanging in the air will sometimes make them immune to knockback effects (except Spring Bean and Primal Peashooter).
  • Blover's recharge time was shown to be "Sluggish" in the almanac even though his in-game recharge time is "Fast."
  • Before the 6.7.1 update, Blover could be used in a dangerous combination with a boosted Spring Bean, where all the zombies were blown off the map while they were still in the air. According to EA, the combo was removed due to it being abused in Arena.
  • Before the 9.2.1 update, Blover could be used in a combination with Boss Blast Perk in Penny's Pursuit. However, this combo has been removed and the likely reason is due to it being abused.
  • Despite being in Contain-mint's family, Blover is not affected in any way by Contain-mint.
  • He is mentioned as a famous hairstylist in Sunflower Singer's Almanac Entry, but this job is not mentioned in his own Almanac Entry.
  • Blover cannot blow away a flying zombie that is behind Glitter Zombie's rainbow or is being stunned by Dazey Chain or Apple Mortar.

Specific to Plants vs. Zombies Online (China only) (Archived content)

  • He uses his blowing sound and description from the first game.
  • He is the only Far Future plant that cannot be obtained in Adventure Mode.
