Jalapeno (Plants vs. Zombies 2)
- For other uses, see Jalapeno (disambiguation).
Jalapeno (pronounced as "Halapenio") is an instant-kill gemium plant available in Plants vs. Zombies 2. When planted, he deals 1800 incendiary damage to all grounded threats in his lane and removes ice-based status effects. He costs 100 gems to obtain.

About
- For more information about this character, see Jalapeno.
Jalapeno returns as a premium plant available for purchase at $2.99. Version 5.9.1 made him cost 100 gems.
Jalapeno remains nearly unchanged from his past iteration. His flames now melt ice blocks and instantly kill zombies trapped within them. His flame sprites persist longer, but only deal damage once to each target.
After the 4.0 update, Jalapeno is used to represent the difficulty of all the worlds except for the Player's House, ranging from one to five. No worlds, however, have a one jalepeno difficulty.

Strategies
Jalapeno has a number of uses that sets him apart from other instants. He can destroy Barrel Roller Zombies/Ice blocks without them releasing zombies and eliminate entire lanes of tombstones in Ancient Egypt/Dark Ages. Since his attack hits the whole lane on the ground, he can be used on places like Big Wave Beach or Pirate Seas to hit zombies in the water and Imp Cannons. His only weakness, the inability to damage Imp Dragon Zombie, is mostly situational and he sees use in a wide variety of scenarios.
If one were to use Sweet Potato, they can bait multiple zombies together in a single lane, allowing for Jalapeno to effectively finish them off. Although Hot Date is arguably superior and Jalapeno can be replaced with other instants, his much higher damage does compensate, and since Jalapeno's ability takes effect immediately, zombies with miscellaneous abilities can't counter him as easily.
It is not recommended to bring Jalapeno into "Don't lose more than X plants" levels, because like other instant-use plants, Jalapeno destroys himself on use.

Trivia
- Jalapeno and his costume, a park ranger hat, is also meant to be ironic, since a park ranger's duty is to spot and prevent forest fires (among other things), while he uses flames to attack zombies.
- His costume could also be a reference to Smokey Bear, the mascot of the U.S. Forest Service, famous for his anti-forest fire PSAs.
- This also applies with Snapdragon and one of his costume, a fireman helmet.
- His explosion plays additional sounds absent from the previous game. He makes a "fweeee" sound along with maracas and castanets during the explosion, making it sound like he is frying something.
- Upon Neon Mixtape Tour Side B's release, he makes an appearance on the world map as a difficulty rating for the different worlds.
- On March 16, 2017, he became one of 5 premium plants to be permanently purchasable with 100 gems, along with Squash, Hypno-shroom , Pea-nut, and Shrinking Violet.
- In his watering animation, he is trying to drink water because he is spicy.
- His artwork in the Penny's Pursuit difficulty selection is different than in-game.
Specific to the Chinese version (China only)
- He is one of four instant-use plants that has level upgrades, the others being Cherry Bomb, Loquat and Grapeshot.
