BoomBerry is a plant in Plants vs. Zombies 2 first introduced in the 10.3.1 update for the BoomBerry's Booom Arena Season. It fires lobbed explosive berries (every 4.6-5.3 seconds, or 5-5.7 seconds starting at level 7) at the last zombie in its lane, in a similar manner to Carrot Rocket and Pineapple-pult from Plants vs. Zombies Online and Rafflesia from the Chinese version of Plants vs. Zombies 2.

These berries also deal splash damage to surrounding zombies and stun whichever zombies they hit for 0.8 seconds, both directly and with their splash damage. BoomBerry also gets bonus damage when there are other BoomBerrys on the lawn.

Origins

While the plant BoomBerry is based on is never explicitly stated, it heavily resembles a cloudberry (Rubus chamaemorus), a berry in the rose family commonly grown and cultivated all throughout the northern hemisphere.

Arma-mint effect

When boosted by Arma-mint, BoomBerry will deal an additional 150 damage with its splash attack, an additional 300 damage with its Plant Food splash attack, its attack area increased as if it were at level 10, and its bonus splash damage is increased to 20 (level 1-2), 30 (level 3-6) or 40 (level 7-10) damage.

Strategies

BoomBerry, while difficult to use, can be a strong asset to the player's arsenal. Due to the area of affect of its attacks being capable of stunning all zombies caught in them, this plant is able to repeatedly stun every zombie on screen.

However, due to it targeting the last zombie in its lane, it's very easy for zombies to slip past its focus (especially if and when a new zombie spawns in the lane). Because of this, the main focus should be on controlling the movement of zombies to fit them all with the area of effect.

Plants that perform well in this regard include instant-use knockback plants, such as Tumbleweed and Hurrikale, as their high manual control allows the player to control the location of zombies to a very fine degree.

However, a plant that truly excels in this regard is Holly Barrier. The knockback (as previously stated) allows the player to fit the zombies into BoomBerry's aoe quite well, with the phenomenal ability to be stockpiled over time via maintaining multiple Holly Barriers on the field at once with their berries stocked up.

Additionally, the walling capabilities of the mini berries it launches will continue to group together zombies, as zombies that have advanced further than others are forced to chew at the wall while those behind them catch up.

Finally, it pairs well with Homing Thistle, as homing thistle is able to catch any zombies that make it past BoomBerry.
