Garlic (Plants vs. Zombies 2)
- For other uses, see Garlic (disambiguation).
Garlic is a plant in Plants vs. Zombies 2. Any zombie that bites him gets diverted into a different lane.
About
- For more information about this character, see Garlic.
Garlic is the fourth plant found in Neon Mixtape Tour and is obtained after beating Neon Mixtape Tour - Day 17. Like in the first game any zombie that bites Garlic will be stunned momentarily and then move to any of the adjacent lanes above or below him.
Unlike the first game however, he has a "stun delay" in which zombies will not be immediately stunned after eating him. The Pharaoh Zombie while in his sarcophagus and mechanical enemies like the Robo-Cone Zombie can eat the Garlic without being diverted into another lane.
Garlic can absorb 600 damage, and his appearances changes twice before being swallowed at 600 damage.

Strategies
The sequel has been notably harsh towards Garlic. On top of it naturally having less sustain due to higher zombie damage, having a delay after a zombie's first bite until they are diverted, and having a slower recharge that reduces how quickly you can repair it, there's a noticeably greater presence of zombies who can bypass its lane diversion entirely. Because of this, it takes far more effort to be put towards sustaining your Garlics, but in doing so will offer just as strong of lane diversion as it did in PvZ1.
One important aspect to using Garlic is the use of a reliable slowdown applier (such as Sap-fling or Snow Pea) to slow zombies eating it. This reduces the amount of damage zombies deal to it, allowing it to reliably survive until its seed packet is off cooldown. Another is the use of instas (such as Cherry Bomb) to counter huge threats to your Garlics (such as Explorer Zombie or Glitter Zombie) before they can destroy it. Another general tip is to use a Spikeweed or Spikerock in front of the Garlic to sift out weak zombies before they reach and bit the garlic. Lastly, your plant food should be rationed with using it to sustain your Garlics in mind. This mostly boils down to using them to divert Gargantuars, as they can't be as easily handled by instas as most other threats, but don't be afraid to use a plant food on a critically low health Garlic if need be. These tips obviously applies to all wall plants in general, but is especially necessary to Garlic as sustaining it properly is much harder than a more typical wall.
Of course, there's more to using Garlic than just sustaining it, namely: making use of its lane diversion. One genre of plant that can make use of Garlic's safety lanes is sun producers (such as Sunflower or Sun-shroom). Consolidating your sun producers into these safety lanes clears up more room for you damage plants, and allows you to position your wall plants farther back into less threatened territory. There's also the plants designed to be positioned in these safety lanes, the most obvious examples being Phat Beet and Rotobaga. Having positions that close to the zombies allows them to make much better use of their range, such as Phat Beet covering 3 columns rather than 1, or Rotobaga using all 4 of its firing angles instead of just 2.
While this doesn't cover every potentially threatening situation Garlic can face, these tips should be enough to get you started in developing and executing your own Garlic strats. Don't be afraid to get creative with how you utilize them! Bring Sling Pea and consolidate it into the safety lanes like a sun producer, bring Chomper to chomp up an Octo Zombie and bite away its octopus, position your garlics in lane 2 and 4 so a single Cherry Bomb can cover them both, these are all things you'll learn along the way. At the end of the day, if you see your strategy failing to hold up, you should first ask yourself what went wrong, then work out how to fix it for next time.

Trivia
- He theoretically still maintains the same health as he did in the first game, but there is a delay in the effect, causing zombies to take more bites.
- Zombies no longer make a disgusted face when biting him. Instead, they freeze and have green gas with them, then change lanes. This is likely due to the higher number of Zombies in the sequel and these additions would have been treadmill work.
- His idle animation is similar to Toadstool's idle animation. His eye movements are similar to Strawburst's eye movements.
- Unlike the first game, Wall-nut First Aid works on this plant.
- It is the only defensive plant in the game that does not have its toughness stat noted in the Almanac.
- One of his costumes is a reference to SpongeBob SquarePants, being the Glove World hat.
- He now has eyebrows, unlike in the first game.
- He appears to be a bit bigger than in the first game.
- His noxious breath when fed Plant Food is similar to Chili Bean's stunning gas and Stunion's breath.
- All of which cause stunning to zombies.
- A slowed down zombie will move to the area between two lanes and be stunned for a while after his breath is released.
- He was seen jumping in the Neon Mixtape Tour, Side B trailer. This jumping animation was used in the Zen Garden.
- If one looks closely when he jumps out when Dr. Zomboss lands on the ground, he looks like he is in his 1st degrade appearance. But when Dr. Zomboss raises his arm, he looks like that he returns back to normal while smiling.
- In Pirate Seas, zombies who eat him while at the planks never go to the water. Instead, they will go to an adjacent plank. Zombies who haven't entered the lawn can still move to the plankless lane under the effect of boosted Garlic, though.
- His costume slightly moves as he gets degraded, making him the first plant to have their costume move as they're being eaten.
- In Plants vs. Zombies: Official Guide to Protecting Your Brains, Crazy Dave says that Garlic smells "stinky", but in Neon Mixtape Tour - Day 17, he says that he smells "mmm, scrum-dicious".
- He is the only plant to reappear in Plants vs. Zombies Heroes from Neon Mixtape Tour.
