Abyss Devil's Claw (深渊魔爪花; pinyin: Shēnyuān mózhǎo huā; literal translation: Abyssal Claw Flower) is a plant in the Chinese version of Plants vs. Zombies 2 introduced in the v3.1.7 update alongside Hoya Heart, Pea Vine, and the Anniversary Carnival Party Secret Realm. This plant has multiple attacking mechanics.

Abyss Devil's Claw attacks by summoning mosquito-like organisms named "Abyss Disciples". Abyss Disciples fly down the lane and attack the first zombie they encounter. Zombies attacked by Abyss Disciples will be stunned in place and have health drained from them. Abyss Disciples will then fly back to Abyss Devil's Claw and supply energy to the "Eye of Abyss". The Eye of Abyss spawns in the corner of the lawn as soon as the first Abyss Devil's Claw is planted. The eye can be tapped on to perform a damaging attack that targets multiple lanes that is more powerful the more energy is provided to her.

She initially costs 50 sun to plant, but her sun cost will double the more she is planted on the lawn. She is the second plant of the "Abyss Series" (深渊系列), first one being Abyss Anemone.

Origins

Abyss Devil's Claw is based on the devil's claw (Proboscidea louisianica), a plant whose native range is unknown, and whose claw shaped fruits were cultivated and pickled for consumption, or dried for basketry.

Upgrades

Plant Food effect

When fed with Plant Food, Abyss Devil's Claw will spit out an egg that will instantly hatch into a Disciple Gargantuar. Disciple Gargantuar will move down their lanes and attack enemy zombies, leaving behind a slowing puddle of acid upon death.

Costumed

When costumed, the Disciple Gargantuar she summons will be upgraded to a Disciple Leader Gargantuar, which has more health, deals more damage, and has a chance of spawning a 3x3 area pool of acid when it attacks.
