Stickybomb Rice is a plant in Plants vs. Zombies 2 introduced in the 8.6.1 update. Stickybomb Rice is able to lob clumps of explosive rice both in front of and behind her every 1.75 - 2 seconds, able to attack in her own and adjacent lanes but only targets one threat at a time. These projectiles ignores abilities of Jester Zombies, Parasol Zombies and Shield Zombies, able to damage them normally, while airborne threats cannot be targeted, but will still take damage if within their AOE. The Sticky Bombs disable their targets completely and detonate after a set time period, able to stack three times. One explosion can set off others, each adding a multiplier of x0.15.

Origins

Stickybomb rice is based on the rice plant, specifically the glutinous rice (Oryza sativa var. glutinosa) (also known as sticky rice), a variety of the Asian rice (Oryza sativa) grown mainly in Southeast and East Asia, Northeastern India and Bhutan which has opaque grains, very low amylose content, and is especially sticky when cooked. It is called glutinous in the sense of being glue-like or sticky which is why it is also called "sticky rice".

She is also based on the sticky bomb, known as the the "Grenade, Hand, Anti-Tank No. 74", commonly known as the S.T. grenade. It was a British hand grenade used during World War II as a anti-tank weapon with adhesive properties to ensure it sticks and connects.

When given Plant Food, Stickybomb Rice will lob the amount of sticky bombs equal to how many non-flying zombies are on the lawn and each will latch on one of the non-flying zombies.

Costume (China only)

Stickybomb Rice's costumed Plant food effect makes her lob large purple blobs of rice. These purple balls of rice explode in a 3x3 area and knock back all zombies within that area.

Arma-mint effect

When boosted by Arma-mint, Stickybomb Rice will deal an additional 175 damage, her Plant Food effect will deal an additional 525 damage, and her bomb chain multiplier is increased by 25%.

Strategies

Stickybomb Rice attacks zombies in adjacent lanes, stalls them, and explodes her projectiles all at the same time. Unlike most lobbed-shot plants, her projectiles cannot be deflected by Jester Zombie, Parasol Zombie, or Shield Zombie, allowing her use against these types of zombies.

She works well in tandem with Tile Turnip combos, especially with multiples of her on the lawn. When combined, it can stall the horde before dealing massive damage to all zombies caught in the explosion.

She also works well with Turkey-pult. When the zombie is unable to move due to being stuck by her projectile, Turkey-pult's turkeys would have time to deal damage without getting eaten at that time. Both of them also belong to the same family, and thus can be boosted by the same Power Mint.

As she is able to attack in front and behind her, she is a solution to deal with Prospector Zombies and zombies affected by pterodactyls. Even if the zombies land on the other side of the lawn, Stickybomb Rice can still stall and defeat them without any trouble. You could also find her useful in early game when you are stalling zombies and planting down sun-producing plants.

Take note that as with all Lobber plants, she is vulnerable to fast zombies such as Zombie Chicken, charging All-Star Zombies, and the enraged Newspaper Zombie. For these types of zombies, Wall plants like Wall-nut, Slowdown plants like Stallia, and Stun plants such as Stunion should be used to wall them.

Lastly, although the explosion can take out flying zombies such as Jetpack Zombie and Balloon Zombie or zombies forced into the air via Spring Bean or Breakdancer Zombie, she cannot target them on her own, so make sure she is paired with either Chard Guard to push the flying zombies back into the explosive radius or Blover/Hurrikale and Draftodil to kill them directly.

Trivia

• So far, in the game she is the only plant in the catapult family in the game to be able to shoot at zombies even when they are behind her.
• Despite being referred to with feminine pronouns in her almanac entry, Stickybomb Rice is referred to with masculine pronouns in an official Reddit post.
• If a zombie has enough Stickybomb Rice projectiles stuck to it that it would be guaranteed to die from their explosion, Stickybomb Rice will ignore that zombie and target the next closest after it instead.
• Stickybomb Rice's lobbing and Plant Food effect's animation are somewhat similar to Sap-fling's.
  • Coincidentally, both of them do not target grid items.
• She is considered as a Heian Age plant on the official website of the Chinese version of Plants vs. Zombies 2 despite this not being the case in-game.
