Thunder Snapdragon (雷龙草; pinyin: Léi lóng cǎo) is a legendary plant in the Chinese version of Plants vs. Zombies 2 which was released for the 2.3.95 update. When zombies are four tiles in front of him, he shoots out an electric ball that deals 250 damage directly and 100 damage splash damage in a 3x3 area.

Origins

Much like Cold Snapdragon, Thunder Snapdragon is based on Snapdragon, which is in turn based on the real-life snapdragons, plants from the Antirrhinum genus. This is similar to how Peashooter has ice, fire and electric counterparts.

Strategies

Thunder Snapdragon is an exceptionally powerful close-ranged plant, with each attack doing massive AoE damage with an additional stun. Not much can ever reach it, especially with proper support.

It's not without weaknesses, however; ranged zombies such as Wizard Zombie, Archmage Zombie and Hunter Zombie can shut it down from a distance, allowing other zombies to pass by. Exceptionally fast zombies such as Newspaper Zombie and All-Star Zombie can also eat it before it can attack in return, due to its somewhat slow attack speed. For these, it's recommended to bring support plants such as walls to protect Thunder Snapdragon.

At level 2 and higher, this plant can be used to briefly paralyze Zombots, and a big group of them can effectively lock Zombots out from doing anything. This is especially useful in Endless Challenge, where Zombot health can scale wildly, as can their zombie spawns.

Trivia

• Thunder Snapdragon's almanac description likely references Thor, the Norse god of thunder and lightning, in several ways including Thunder Snapdragon claiming to be from Asgard (home of the Norse gods) and that he's "The Dragon of Thunder".
• Weirdly, his level 5 ability can damage friendly zombies and plant grid items (such as Infi-nut's shield).
  • The same is true for Snapdragon and Cold Snapdragon.
