Draftodil
“ | ” | |
Draftodil is a premium plant in Plants vs. Zombies 2, introduced in the 8.7.1 update for the "Draftodil's Defensive" Arena Season. She constantly slows aerial foes in her lane for 50%, every 1.35-1.5 seconds, firing air blasts with 15 damage that devastates airborne enemies and has a chance to flick tiny zombies off the lawn, instantly killing them.
About
If planted in the same row as a Dandelion, Draftodil will cause 2 Dandelions in her lane to release multiple bombs at once, but Dandelion will be disabled for 10+2 seconds afterward. This will not trigger further unless new ones are planted again.
When her air cannon blasts come into contact with a usual airborne enemy (this includes the Lost Pilot Zombie, those bounced by Spring Bean and Boingsetta, as well as anything else that can be obliterated with Blover), it will be destroyed. The only exceptions are the Zombot Aerostatic Gondola, which is only severely damaged on hit, and Imps thrown by Gargantuars, which are immune to this plant entirely until they land.
Against smaller foes such as shrunken zombies, imps and critters (Zombie Chickens, Ice Weasels, etc), the air blast has a chance of instantly destroying them, lightly damaging them with a brief stun otherwise.
Origins
Draftodil is based on the daffodil, also known as the narcissus, a genus of flowering plants with strong historical significance in early Europe.
Her name is a portmanteau of "draft," a current of cold air in a confined space, and daffodil, the genus of flower she's based on. Her description is a play on the phrase "full of hot air," which is used to describe someone who speaks a lot, but is ultimately saying very little.

Upgrades
Plant Food effect
When given Plant Food, Draftodil blows away all airborne enemies in her lane and releases five (ten in the Chinese version) powerful air blasts with 115 damage each, guaranteed to flick tiny zombies off the lawn on contact while stunning survivors for longer.
Contain-mint effect
When boosted by Contain-mint, Draftodil will deal an additional 150 damage with her normal attack, an additional 255 damage with her Plant Food attack, her stun duration is increased by 1.25 seconds, her Plant Food effect stun duration is increased by 5 seconds, and her blasts will always flick specified zombies off the lawn.

Strategies
Draftodil is a good plant for stalling, as her air blasts can stun zombies briefly, similar to Primal Peashooter without the knockback ability. However, compared with Primal Peashooter, her sun cost, damage and stun duration are lower. Additionally, Draftodil fires projectiles more often than Primal Peashooter. Another advantage of Draftodil over Primal Peashooter is her level upgrades. As Draftodil's level increases, her damage per second and stun effect catch up with his, not to mention the boost of Contain-mint gives to Draftodil is more effective than the boost of Appease-mint gives to Primal Peashooter.
She cooperates well with Shrinking Violet or Enforce-mint, as they will shrink zombies, and Draftodil's air cannon is able to blow small zombies off the lawn directly. Also, Imp Pear can be used well with Draftodil, as Imp Pear turns zombies into Imps, which can be knocked off the lawn by her. Contain-mint boosts her damage and stun duration, which makes her a both super control and high damage dealing plant.
A level 1 Draftodil's damage is low; it doesn't compare with even a level 1 Peashooter, thus the player should not use the only plant to deal damage. For more stalling ability, plants such as Dazey Chain, Apple Mortar, Winter Melon, Primal Peashooter or Sap-fling can be used with her. Another good strategy is to use Draftodils in mass numbers, or in combination with more damaging plants.
Draftodil can also be used with Stickybomb Rice or Dandelion, because the former cannot hit flying zombies and the latter will release multiple bombs at once upon her initial planting. Draftodil's projectile cannot be deflected by Jester Zombie, but can be blocked by Shield Zombie's shield and Excavator Zombie, so the player should utilize lobbed shot or piercing plants with Draftodil to take care of these zombies. Notably, her projectiles will stun Jester Zombie and make him vulnerable to projectiles that he will otherwise reflect, allowing Draftodil to be an excellent support for projectile-based plants against it.
Drafodil is very helpful with plants, zombies, perks, or power-ups that can make grounded zombies "airborne", since then there could be a chance to knock the zombie off the lawn. Compared with Blover, Draftodil is helpful in "Don't lose more than x plants" since unlike Blover, she won't count as a lost plant when blowing away airborne zombies. However, since Draftodil can only attack one zombie at a time, don't use her with Reinforce-mint since a single Draftodil will only take out one zombie, whereas Blover can clear almost the entire screen.
At higher levels, Draftodil can be useful against Chicken Wrangler Zombie and Weasel Hoarder as the guaranteed stun from her attacks can prevent the animals from being released if the zombies are killed while stunned.
In general, Draftodil is a useful assisting plant.

Trivia
- Before the 8.9.1 update, despite having a Plant Food effect, Draftodil's Mastery did not increase her chance to boost.
- Whenever Draftodil knocks a zombie off the lawn, sounds from activating a power-up can be heard apart from Power Toss sounds.
- Not counting Magnet-shroom's ability to decapitate Punk Zombies, a level 5+ Stunion and a level 6+ Grave Buster, Draftodil is one of three plants in the Contain-mint family that actually deal damage, the others being Dazey Chain and Buttercup.
- The Chinese version of Draftodil's level 5 projectile is the same as her high-level projectile from the international version.
