Strategies
Bamboo Shoots costs 5 sun, more than Peashooter. Utilizing a defense that has both of them is effective; Peashooter can cover for Bamboo Shoots' slow attack speed and Bamboo Shoots can take down stronger zombies and hordes with splash. Snow Pea can also cover and group up zombies to great effect. Lightning Reed can eliminate weaker zombies to maximize the efficiency of his shots.

—Bamboo Shoots
Prior to the 2021 re-release of Plants vs. Zombies 3, Bamboo Shoots was a RareShooterplant and the first new plant unlocked in Plants vs. Zombies 3. They costed 7 sun and slowly shot missiles in their lane, dealing heavy damage to the zombies they hit.
They were introduced to teach the player about the game's Threat mechanic, specifically as a counter to Armored Zombies.

Strategies
Since Bamboo Shoots cost 7 sun, considerably more than most other plants in Plants vs. Zombies 3, they are costly to place and, as such, should not be relied on too much as your main defense. However, their explosive shots are especially effective against armored zombies, so, if there are many of them, it is suggested to bring Bamboo Shoots into combat.
Their slow attack speed may lead them to being easily swarmed by faster zombies, such as Power Walker, Imp, and especially Zombie Chickens, and they are truly unreliable against flying zombies such as the Zombie Pigeon. As such, their high damage may be appealing but in higher floors in the Devour Tower, where there are tougher and more unique threats, they become less reliable. As such, assisting them with plants like Wall-Nut or Lightning Reed is a good idea.
Their Plant Food ability is very effective, as it allows heavy damage to a target and zombies in a 3x3 area. This can be helpful for taking down high-priority threats such as the Gargantuar. Their Tacobility is more effective for taking out groups of zombies clustered together, making it better against swarms, but most strategies with Bamboo Shoot still apply, along with the weaknesses.
