Dragon Bruit is a premium plant added in the 11.1.1 update of Plants vs. Zombies 2. Dragon Bruit is a lobber plant who spits high damaging lobbed projectiles down their lane and in the adjacent lanes above and below. Dragon Bruit is also a shadow plant and planting them in shadow aura will allow the projectiles they fire to deal poison damage.

If Dragon Bruit is defeated, they will split into three "Baby Bruit" plants in the lane they are planted in and the adjacent lanes above and below. Baby Bruits fire weaker projectiles down their lanes and are still able to be powered by shadow aura.

Origins

Dragon Bruit is based on the pitaya, also known as the dragon fruit, the fruit of several cacti species that are native to the Americas. Their name is a portmanteau of "Dragon Fruit" and "Bruit", (which means to spread widely) referencing their ability to spawn weaker copies of themselves when destroyed and possibly "Brute" (which means a savage or violent person or animal).

Plant Food effect

When given Plant Food, Dragon Bruit fires a projectile at every zombie on the lawn once or twice (when powered). If Dragon Bruit is powered at the time of being given Plant Food, poison is applied.

When a Dragon Baby Bruit is given Plant Food, they will grow into a full grown Dragon Bruit.

Costumed (China only)

When given Plant Food and if not powered, Dragon Bruit will be powered for 10 seconds and will shoot a set of projectiles that deal more damage.

Conceal-mint effect

When boosted by Conceal-mint, Dragon Bruit will become temporarily powered, deal an additional 10 (level 1-4) / 40 (level 5-7) / 20 (level 8) / 30 (level 9-10) damage with their powered attack, an additional 10 damage with their poison attack, their normal splash damage is increased by 20/25/30/40/45/50/55/60/65 damage, their Plant Food splash damage is increased by 50 damage, and their shadow Plant Food will lob projectiles at every zombie on the lawn three times. Split Dragon Bruit will also become the shadow state, deal an additional 10 (level 1-4) / 40 (level 5-7) / 20 (level 8) / 30 (level 9-10) damage with their powered attack, an additional 10 damage with their poison attack, their poison duration is increased by 10 seconds, and their splash damage is increased by 80/100/125/150/170/200/220/240/260/285 damage.

Trivia

• Dragon Bruit is the third plant in the series to be based off of a dragon fruit, the first being Dragonfruit and the second being Dark Matter Dragonfruit. They are also the first dragon fruit inspired plant in the international version of the core series.
• Dragon Bruit originally suffered from a bug where, while able to be powered by Moonflower, Moonflower was not boosted by them. This was fixed in the 11.3 Update.
• Dragon Bruit is currently the only plant associated with the Lunar Zoo Year event to not be a member of the Enforce-mint family.
• Dragon Bruit's color when being destroyed may be reference to 2024 being wood dragon year.
• Dragon Bruit does not target flying zombies. However, their Plant Food effect does.
• Both Dragon Bruit and Gluttonous Snapdragon were created to commemorate the Year of the Dragon.
• Baby Dragon Bruits will not spawn on a tile if there is a vine plant on them.
• Dragon Bruit is currently the only shadow plant not to have blue in their color scheme when powered, instead having lavender and green in their color scheme when powered.
