Pumpkin (Plants vs. Zombies 2)

Pumpkin is a defensive plant in Plants vs. Zombies 2 that was added in the 7.7.2 update. He has high health and protects plants within him.
About
- For more information about this character, see Pumpkin.
Pumpkin is a seed packet unlockable premium plant, associated with Pumpkin's Safety Season of Arena. Pumpkin is acquired after collecting 100 Pumpkin seed packets.
He costs 150 sun and functions almost identically to the first game, however due to the mechanics change between games, Pumpkin has some slightly different functions. Like vine plants, Pumpkin's Plant Food effect will trigger regardless of if it's planted on another plant or not, meaning Pumpkin has the potential to duplicate Plant Food.
Another similarity to vine plants is that it is now impossible to dig up a plant planted inside Pumpkin without first removing the Pumpkin himself. Aside from those and some minor stat changes however, Pumpkin is pretty much the same. Pumpkin absorbs 4000 damage and his appearance changes at 1320 damage and 2640 damage before being destroyed at 4000 damage.
He is unable to be planted on Tangle Kelp, Grave Buster, Hot Potato, other Pumpkins, and vine plants. In both games, Pumpkin can be repaired with Wall-nut First Aid if it's unlocked.
In the Chinese version, Pumpkin is able to tank two strong attacks, such as All-Star Zombie's tackle and Gargantuar's smash attack, in a similar manner to Primal Wall-nut. Due to how vine plants were reworked in the Chinese version, Pumpkin cannot be planted on his own without another plant inside of him due to being categorized as a vine plant. If a plant such as Puff-shroom or Ghost Pepper expires while inside Pumpkin, Pumpkin will slowly wither away until he either expires himself or another plant is placed inside of him.

Strategies
While Pumpkins hasn't differed much in usage from the first game, there are still many plants that can benefit from him.
Because Pumpkin doesn't take up any space ahead, plants having a limited range makes a viable choice to pair with him. Three columns of Cold Snapdragon/Snapdragon could be used because Pumpkin is protecting the front column of them and this effectively increases the amount of damage done against the zombies if they are right up against the Pumpkins.
Another good plant to pair with Pumpkin is Chomper, as it covers their usually short range.
Pumpkins also make a viable choice in Endless Zone levels. Partnering him with plants at the third column from the left protects them from Imps thrown by Gargantuars, thus minimizing their threat as he will take a while to destroy. Pumpkin also protects plants from zombies spawned during Surprise attacks.
Like in the first game, Pumpkin can be spammed over all of your plants to offer maximum defense. However, there are two main flaws with this strategy: one is Pumpkin's long recharge time, which means that this strategy can only be achieved on exceptionally long levels (however this can be partly mitigated with Imitater or by instant recharging the Pumpkin with Plant Food), and the second is the presence of vine plants, as unlike them, Pumpkin doesn't attack, so at times he can be replaced with the Pyre Vine or Blastberry Vine if durability isn't a concern.
Likewise, he can be replaced with Explode-o-Vine, which, while lacking direct offense and has less than half the health, can produce a powerful explosion. A bonus of this strategy that isn't in the first game is the existence of Reinforce-mint, which gives all the Pumpkins on the field a significant health buff and Plant Food in one go.
Note: Pumpkins do not stop Explorer Zombies, Troglobites, Turquoise Skull Zombie and Arcade Zombies from burning or crushing them instantly, along with the plant inside. However, using Pumpkin is still a valid strategy to protect plants that can help dealing with them.

Trivia
- Prior to the 8.0.1. update, he was the only plant that didn't have any animations.
- Due to Store sales involving vines not including Pumpkin, and his official Reddit reveal post only referring to Pumpkin as being "similar to vines", it can be reasonably assumed that Pumpkin is not considered a vine plant despite functioning identically to one. Even so, Pumpkin can still be considered the equivalent of one for his plant family that specializes in defense.
- In the Chinese version of the game however, Pumpkin is explicitly referred to and categorized as a vine plant.
- When he is given Plant Food, someone can be heard saying "Pumpkin!."
- Pumpkin is so far the only premium plant officially associated with four different holiday events; these events being Lawn of Doom, Fall Food Fight, and Luck O' the Zombie in the International version, and The Springening in the Chinese version.
- Glitter Zombie can kill Power Mints inside of a Pumpkin. This is a glitch.
Specific to the Chinese version (China only)
- Pumpkin's Plant Food armor received a redesign in the Chinese version, as the redesigned armor now contains several sharp points on the top.
