Hailing originally from Greece but thriving in Rome, Zombie Medusa takes advice from her snakes based on their charisma and shared personal hisssstory.

Zombie Medusa is a zombie that can only be encountered in Penny's Pursuit in Plants vs. Zombies 2. She pushes a large mound of stone that contains a Bust Head Zombie in a similar manner to Troglobite and Arcade Zombie. She is also able to instantly petrify zombies or zomboids that face her and replace them with a stone slab that absorbs plant attacks.

Origins

Zombie Medusa is based on Medusa, one of the three Gorgons of Greek mythology.

Overview

Zombie Medusa absorbs 750 damage per shot. She loses her arm at 375 damage per shot before dying at 750 damage per shot.

Her stone mound absorbs 1000 damage per shot, and changes appearance at 200, 400, 600 and 800 damage per shot before releasing a Bust Head Zombie at 1000 damage per shot. Her stone block absorbs 1100 damage per shot, and changes appearance at 110, 275, 440, 660 and 880 damage per shot before getting destroyed at 1100 damage per shot.

Zombie Medusa cannot petrify the following zombies:

• Treasure Yeti
• Imp Cannon
• Zombie King
• Healer Zombie
• Already petrified zombies
• General Zombies
• Zombots

Strategies

Zombie Medusa is very dangerous when you have Zoybean Pod or any plants that can hypnotize zombies. Even without them, she can still push dangerous Bust Head Zombies which are pretty durable. Try stalling her by planting Stunion, Iceberg Lettuce or Stallia. You can also use plants that can push back zombies such as Hurrikale which will prevent her from pushing the statues. Besides preventing her from pushing the statues, you can defeat her by using certain edible plants such as Chili Bean or using some other instant plant she is vulnerable against.

If she is pushing statues, plants like Hot Date, Sweet Potato, and Garlic can divert her. Snap Pea, if properly supported, is also a good counter since he can eat Medusa instantly, and the Medusa head has the ability to petrify many other zombies when he launches it. Turkey-Pult and Tiger Grass also work, as their spawns aren't petrified.

List of the effects that Zombie Medusa is immune to (even when the plant is boosted):

• Hypnotized by Hypno-shroom, Caulipower, and Enchant-mint.
• Poisoned by Shadow-shroom, Level 5+ Stunion, Goo Peashooter, Ail-mint, Puffball and Nightcap.
• Spawning a new copy of Spore-shroom when defeated by it.
• Knocked back by Primal Peashooter.
• Being shrunk by Shrinking Violet and Enforce-mint.
• Turned into an Imp by Imp Pear.
• Any stunning effect (except freezing and Kernel-pult, Headbutter Lettuce and Buttercup's butter)
• The transformation effect of Witch Hazel.
• Teleported by Hocus Crocus.

Trivia

• Her Almanac icon is a bit different than the ones in the game; it shows that her face doesn't have a black tone covering her face.
• As mentioned in her description, the Zombie Medusa is based on the eponymous Greek mythological Gorgon but is classified with the Roman Zombies in-game.
• She will petrify all zombies that face her, other Medusas included. Notably, this includes any effect that turns zombies around, such as Sweet Potato and Hot Date's Plant Food abilities.
• She has pupils that are different than those of other zombies the rest of the series, and they are similar to a snake's eyes.
  • This is currently the only zombie in the series to have different pupils.
• The stone slabs she turns opposing zombies into are actually a separate zombie in the code.
  • This causes a glitch where these stone slabs can be affected by the Hypnotize Zombie Perk in Penny's Pursuit, causing them to block other zombies.
• Like Octo Zombie, Zombie Medusa has animals covering her face. In her case, they are snakes.
  • Being a Gorgon, the snakes are actually her hair, while Octo Zombie's Octopus merely clings on him.
  • Coincidentally, Octo Zombie and Zombie Medusa both share the same body structure, along with zombies like Sushi Chef Zombie, Troglobite, Arcade Zombie, Jurassic Bully, and Jurassic Rockpuncher.
    • Out of all of them, Zombie Medusa is currently the only female zombie to have this body structure.
• Like with Healer Zombie, Zombie Medusa has a poison mask in her spritesheet despite being immune to poison.
