Coal Miner Zombie is the third and final unique zombie in Steam Age in the Chinese version of Plants vs. Zombies 2. When he encounters a plant for the first time, he will destroy the plant by pouring coal on it, making the tile unable to be planted on until the coal disappears. When he is defeated or after he pours his coal, he will leave his wheelbarrow on his tile which acts as an obstacle, similar to Surfer Zombie. However, the coal cannot be destroyed, unlike the wheelbarrow.

Overview

Coal Miner Zombie absorbs 2490 damage per shot and degrades at 2000 where the wheelbarrow is destroyed and 2245 when he loses his arm before being defeated. If he absorbs 5 fire-based attacks, the wheelbarrow will be destroyed instantly.

Strategies

Coal Miner Zombie is a pretty fast zombie with his wheelbarrow. Not only that, but his wheelbarrow also absorbs a lot of damage for it. The best way to severely degrade the zombie is by planting a cheap plant in front of it such as a Puff-shroom.

As for the wheelbarrow, since it absorbs 2000 damage per shot, fire plants are the best choice. Also, strong attacking plants such as Citron are useful for destroying it. After destroying the wheelbarrow without fire attacks, it will occasionally leave out coal, which acts as a temporary crater for 30 seconds.

Trivia

• Despite Coal Miner Zombie appearing to have a Bucket on his head, it provides no additional armor and falls off alongside his head once he dies.
  • Prior to the v3.1.7 update, the bucket would simply float in the air after he loses his head, dissapearing once his death animation starts.
    • He also had the regular Labor Zombie's cap below his bucket prior to said update.
  • The bucket being there is likely an animation mistake from porting over the Labor Zombie sprites, as there isn't any code in the game's files that suggests that Coal Miner was meant to have armored variants.
• When his wheelbarrow is destroyed, it will play the sound effects from Surfer Zombie's surfboard.
  • The surfboard itself is also in his spritesheet, and can even appear in game if Coal Miner attempts to place his wheelbarrow on a tile it can't go (such as on rails).
