History records that Roman Caesar Zombie was a leader of impressive size and grandeur, looked up to by all his subjects.

Roman Caesar Zombie is a zombie encountered in Penny's Pursuit in Plants vs. Zombies 2. He is a General zombie like Cardio Zombie and Z-Mech, appearing only on the 8th column and having several different stages of attacks.

The Roman Caesar Zombie has several abilities. He can promote common Roman Zombies into Centurion Zombies, throw bottles of salad dressing onto the player's plants that disable said plant and accelerates all zombies in the lane, or summon some other Roman Zombies.

Origins

Roman Caesar Zombie (specifically the imp) is based on the Roman statesman Julius Caesar, while his ability to throw salad dressing is based on how it is a common ingredient in Caesar Cardini's namesake salad, which was commonly misattributed to Julius Caesar instead.

Strategies

Roman Caesar Zombie is a very dangerous zombie when you're fighting him. He will throw salad dressing to turn plants into salad, which will speed up all zombies in the lane. He can also promote Roman Zombies into Centurion Zombies, as well as spawning some Roman Zombies and Roman Shield Zombies.

If Roman Caesar Zombie is about to throw salad dressing at the rightmost plant on any lane, you can shovel up one of your plants before the salad dressing reaches it. If salad dressing covers the plant, that plant is temporarily disabled and causes any front zombies except the Roman Caesar Zombie himself to speed up. When the zombies speed up, use slowing plants like Snow Pea or Hurrikale to slow them down. If you are not able to beat the sped-up zombies, try to stall them using defensive Plants or stalling plants until the salad disappears.

When it promotes Roman Zombies into Centurion Zombies, you can use Magnet-shroom to pull off the Centurion Zombies' galea. If there are many Centurion Zombies, and if Roman Caesar Zombie keeps promoting Roman Zombies into Centurions, Magnet-shroom is especially useful when fed with Plant Food. Another strategy is to use poisonous plants, as they ignore zombie armor (though it may take a while for the poison to defeat the zombies, especially in higher difficulties in Penny's Pursuit)

Roman Caesar Zombie can also spawn Roman Zombies and Roman Shield Zombies from the ground, making the battle against it a bit more difficult. If there are Roman Shield Zombies being spawned from the ground, use piercing plants such as Laser Bean.

Trivia

• Unlike other General zombies, Roman Caesar Zombie is vulnerable to Butter and Poison effects.
• He is one of the two zombies to be featured in an advertisement before actually being released in the game, the other being ZCorp Consultant.
• If a Roman Caesar Zombie is killed, an Imp has 2 different animations depending on its appearance. The first one is where the Imp falls down from the column, rises up, and flees from the lawn. The second is that the Imp falls down with its head rolled off.
  • When the first Imp animation plays, it signifies the player that the Imp will return shortly after with another zombie carrying the column. When the second Imp animation plays, it means the Roman Caesar has been finally defeated in its last appearance of the level. The player can easily notice this in timed levels from Penny's Pursuit or Arena.
• When a Primal Potato Mine explodes and defeats Roman Caesar Zombie, his defeated animation will play, but the zombie carrying the column will have no head.
  • The same also happens to Cardio Zombie.
