Ox-Demon King Zombot (牛大王僵尸; pinyin: Niú Dàwáng Jiāngshī - also referred to as 牛魔王僵尸 (pinyin: Niú Mówáng Jiāngshī) in Plants vs. Zombies: Great Wall Edition and Plants vs. Zombies: Original Edition) was a zombie that first appeared in Plants vs. Zombies: Endless Edition, later on ported to Plants vs. Zombies: Great Wall Edition, and even later on ported to Plants vs. Zombies: Original Edition. He served as the boss of the chapter Battle of the Ox-Demon.

Ox-Demon King Zombot is unique from all other bosses in the franchise in that it has three stages of battle, between which the player can choose new plants to use. Within the first stage, the player fights at night, the second at dawn (functionally night), and the third at day. This boss has multiple abilities, each phase having a different attack pattern:

• During the first phase, the Ox-Demon King Zombot enters the lawn in a standing position with only his legs and feet being visible. During this phase it only has one standard attack:
  • Launches a rocket (or multiple) from his left knee at a plant. Before the rocket's landing, a target similar to that of Bungee Zombie's attack will be dropped onto the coordinated tile. Upon landing, the rocket will destroy any plants on that tile, after which it will start blinking, before exploding in a 3x3 area, destroying any plants within the said area. However, this attack can be blocked by an Umbrella Leaf if the rocket lands on any tile within Umbrella Leaf's range. A landed rocket can only be removed by using an Ice-shroom or Jalapeno, despite plants attempting to target it.
    • Like with Bungee Zombies, rockets cannot target Cob Cannons, but their explosion can destroy them if they're nearby.
  • If there are any plants on the last three columns of the lawn, the Ox-Demon King Zombot will stomp them, crushing and destroying them instantly.
• During the second phase, Ox-Demon King Zombot enters the lawn in a standing position with his torso and head being visible. During this phase, it follows a consistent attack pattern:
  • Places 2 to 4 zombies with his hand, including Zombies, Conehead Zombies and Buckethead Zombies. This attack always occurs between the two following attacks, either in direct order or, in Original Edition, with the other two being randomly picked between each other. Also in Original Edition, his spawn pool is expanded after the first cycle, gaining Pole Zombies, Peach Zombies, Oil Truck Zombies, Ladder Zombies and Catapult Zombies, and the amount of zombies it can summon per attack cycle is increased.
    • He can only spawn zombies on lanes 1, 3 and 5, except in Original Edition where he can spawn them on any of the 5 lanes.
  • Waves around his Iron Fan, which gives all zombies on the lawn a speed buff (visually, a red hue layer), which speeds the zombies up by 1.5 times (2 times in Original Edition) until the Iron Fan is put back on its place. This attack can be countered by using Blover to blow away the fan. In Original Edition, this buff is permanent and is not negated by the zombie being chilled.
  • Creates a Fireball with his hand on lanes 1, 3 or 5. After this attack its cycle repeats.
  • If there are any plants on the last 3 columns, the Ox-Demon King Zombot will crush them with his hand between attacks.
• During the third phase, the Ox-Demon King Zombot enters the lawn in a leaning position with only his upper torso and head remaining. It will call for a random one of the following three attacks every 15 seconds during this phase (in Original Edition it will do one attack immediately as soon as the fight starts, but in other versions it will wait first), all the while Bungee Zombie Surprise attacks constantly occur:
  • Launches a rocket from his head, functionally the same as the rocket attack in the first phase, but can only happen once at a time.
  • Summons an Iceball from his mouth on lanes 1, 3 or 5.
  • Shoots out a laser beam from his eyes, scorching down lanes 1, 3 or 5, which kills any plants within it as well as the lawn mower. This attack can be countered by using an Ice-shroom before it finishes.

Trivia

• The "Journey to the East (东游记; pinyin: Dōngyóujì)" mythical novel mentioned in his almanac entry is a play on "Journey to the West" the ancient Chinese novel.
  • Coincidentally, it is an existing novel which has a similar name with Journey to the West.
• For some reason, his eyes disapeared entirely in the later half of his third phase's defeat animation.
  • This was fixed in Original Edition, which made the eyes turn black in the same way as the original Zombot's.
    • Original Edition also made the Ox-Demon King Zombot's remains stick around after it is defeated, both in the first and second phase (disappearing once the lawn transitions) and in the third (staying permanently on the lawn after the player has won). In its original appearances it would dissapear a few seconds after its animation was finished.
• Its second phase was the only one not to have an entering animation when the phase begins, simply popping into view instead. This is likely because it used an entirely unique set of animations, while its other two phases re-used animations from the original Zombot.
  • This was fixed in Original Edition.
